Question guys,
Who here understands these mics (I know Chance does but he's very busy) that could maybe give me some comparisons.
Example: I know the ACM-2 looks like a certain brand but will it sound like it?
Is it alright to mention other brands in this thread?
I'm really interested in the...
Very nice! Keep working on it until your finished. Picking is always so relaxing. I agree you need to right it down and complete it. It's nice to hear the picking so clear and not cluttered with other instruments.
Wow thanks guys!
That's the most compliments I've gotten trying to do this on my own.
I'm trying some different reverbs and working more with compression and EQ.
I'll be switching songs next week so I'd appreciate any help you guys can give. It is soooo hard to fix your own vocals. You really...
Hey,
I finally changed the mix and would like another critique.
I've added the 703 panels and will add more in the next few days. But, here is where it is now.
Also I completely rethought the compression and fx.
So, critique away PLEASE! :D

How fun is this. I love the French language and gospel sooo.... :)
Although I've just started treating my room today I will comment.
I like the mix generally, the lead vocal though seems to be too soft IMO.
Maybe just bring it up a bit and it seems a bit too dry, but I like a bit more fx...
Thanks zzfdvz for the input. Our house has long shallow closets, no walk-ins big enough so I'll have to try and get some more blankets up!
I'm amazed that people can record anything now days without acoustic treatment. 20 years back, they just used their garages and basements to do some pretty...
Hey Chance,
Just finished viewing your site. Great testimony! I'm a fan of Benny Hester. Calvary Chapel was such a huge part of the "Jesus Movement". My all time favorites were Keith Green and 2nd Chapter of Acts.
I also PM you with a few questions.
Hi guys.
I'd like to get some comments on this vocal. I've been working at getting a descent vocal sound and want some input. I'm working on a simple project for mainly church folk. They've been on me for over 2 years to do a CD for them. So, I must do this by the end of April.
1. My room is...
I just heard from Alan. He said to just try different setting to find the sweet spot. I will try that. My concern is that I'm so new to this I'd be doing something that makes it worse, rather than helping.
When I use a plug-in compressor in Sonar I can use presets and hear clearly what is going...
Hey guys,
I thought I was using the compressor correctly, but a friend came over to help me and after hearing a vocal he said they thought there was something going on with the compressor settings.
I've been setting the compressor like Alan suggests in the above post, but, after I read the...
Thanks war,
I finally got a chance to listen. It really does help to hear male and female vocals through the same mike. I noticed that I liked the Hamburg II and Vienna II for the female and the Vienna and Hamburg for the male. Nice way to learn how to judge different mics.
Thanks.
Well for what it's worth, I chose the TB1 because I tried both the NT1 and NT1A and really didn't like the sibilant factor. They are not bad mics, just not for my vocals. They seemed thin and even if detailed, they were lacking in something. It didn't sound like my voice to me or the other two...
Studio Projects B1
SP C1
SP TB1 = love it. Even on cheap monitors my vocals sound like me. Nice sound with very little color. IMO
Alan is great to work with. The company has been very responsive to questions.
Steven,
I've also looked at the R84 and the R92. My preamp is a JoeMeek threeQ so I don't know if that will be enough to drive it.
At this point I will be using is just on my voice. I sing opera, classical, 1940's big band, country. The projects I want to start are 1940's style.
You mentioned...
I have it and love it. The compressor is VERY quiet and it works well with my TB1 tube mic. Be sure to read the posts on PMI forum for info on how to use the compressor section. They were very helpful. It has plenty of gain and I love having the compressor and eq built in. The eq gives it a...
You know, you may want to try listening to his mix in the cans. If you change the way the mix is during tracking, he may change the way he pronounces his vowels. That's what's making him sound like he has marbles in his mouth. It's always the vowel.
If he hears a muddier sound during tracking...
