... both the jcm900 plug in and the soldano plug in clones are nice. the jcm900 coupled with the SIR plug-in and a mesa cab sim impulse is huge enough for his application. of course, like when he goes in the studio (he tours and I assume has gone into a studio, so he must know this) he'll...

that page with the EQ ranges...

can someone link me up to one of those pages with the nice EQ ranges of the various instruments for EQ-ing and hi/low passing purposes? particularly for rock/metal. my mixes are so muddied up, I need to really start doing some target golf with the EQ.

    Reaper (compressor) mastering tips?

... thanks! I also realized that the classic series limiter does a nice metal squash, and has lotsa presets, but I will try yours as well! although I don't recall -50 being anywhere near what I ever used on anything in the past, so hopefully this isn't a trick (ya kinda missed about 10...

    Reaper (compressor) mastering tips?

On the topic of reaper, does anyone have sort of a "nice starting point" for compressing (using the VST reacomp) a final mix for mastering a typical metal song where I want it to be nice and loud and squashed? (I know, most people hate squashing since it kills many of the dynamics, but I'm...

    impulses for lead work?

I don't know how it works (probably over my head anyway), but the cab sims behave like the reverbs you tested. you just open them up with the SIR while the guitar track is playing, and it sounds like the mic'ed cab. I guess the super dumb theory I have is that the blip has a unique curve to it...

    impulses for lead work?

... RAMI, you just use one of these bad boys like a plug in: http://www.knufinke.de/sir/sir1.html then you use the open button on the interface to apply the impulse of choice (a wav file - sounds like a blip). and wala - cab and reverb sims. I don't goof with moving the sliders on the...

    impulses for lead work?

... oh yeah! I'd been there before, but when I was searching for cabs, and totally forgot they had all those categories! yee haaaw! :D the lexi, kurzweil, and alesis ones are very tasty for leads I'm finding!

    impulses for lead work?

anyone have any links to a site with nice reverby impulses for metal-style lead work? I keep finding cabinet simulator impulses, but now I'd like to find a nice lush echoy/reverb sound for leads. thanks.
