    Old house for studio

I don't think CCTV would be quite as NICE, but it'd be about the same price and a LOT easier

    basement studio ventilation: help!

OK, cool. Just thought I'd throw out the option. With the air conditioning, baffles and as many turns as you can get, but it is only going to improve the situation, not remove it.

    Cubuse Metronome?

Hi, all Sometimes when using the metronome (using MIDI, just for the count in, on recording) I end up getting the last bit of the beat recorded by the microphones in the room. I would have thought that the recording wouldn't start until the last beat? Is there anything I can do about this?

    basement studio ventilation: help!

What about using a POD with earphones? Not as nice, but DEFINITELY easier! Just a thought.

    Old house for studio

There are much better experts here - but my understanding is that visual link puts more of a connection between the engineer and the artist. Talkback is great, but being able to see where the mics are, whether the artist has kicked one over, or whatever - very useful You could use closed...

    Cyberspace take me away.

Sweet piece, Emeric! As said, some of the instruments weren't convincing, but I found after a coupla listens that it didn't matter to me - the whole piece hung together really well and built a nice sound picture Very very nice

    New song

What CJ said - the whole track felt THICK, like the music was coming outta a heavy fog. There was definitely some distortion on the hits between 45 and 60 seconds, less in other places On the positive side, you have a nice country voice, in my opinion and the song structure was good

New one "Unread" - Mix comments, etc. please.

Teddie, First impressions : Beautiful as always. This sort of thing justifies the whole homerecording idea. Write a song, record it and get it to your public in a coupla weeks. Very polished sounding. I hate to gush, but... After going through a few times looking for suggestions ...

Preamp for live use - horn

Heh. I already got the diamond (well, a saphire with little diamonds) so it is a bit late. The whole thing just became moot - I just wrote off my car (my own damn stupid fault) so cash is going to be in rather more demand for day to day stuff then I was anticipating. Sigh.

Digital myths - a must read

EXcellent article - takes the wind out of the sails of both analog bigots and digital bigots. I guess the short summary is that digital has advantages and disadvantages - and so does analog.

I need a volume knob! Advice: preamp or homebrew?

I'm still confused :) He's got a mixer. Every mixer I've seen has a set of main faders going to a stereo out that is designed to go to an amp and then to a set of speakers, right? Or doesn't his? The tannoys are just the amp and speakers in one - I don't see what that wouldn't work. Am I...

I need a volume knob! Advice: preamp or homebrew?

I'm confused, still. What kind of mixer is it? You're telling me if the master faders are down all the way on the mixer, it is still too loud? And it gets louder when the faders go up????

Preamp for live use - horn

Hi, all. This is more of a live sound question then a home recording question, but someone might know. I'm looking for a preamp I can put between the mixer and the SM58 we're using to mic my fiancee's trumpet (yes, more trumpet fun) I'd really like for her to be able to control the volume on...
