    Yorkville YSM-1 + Yorkville SR-300?

OK, I've got to get some monitors. I just blew some money on a Mackie 1604 (not VLZ Pro, unfortunately - I bought this one used, but couldn't afford the VLZ Pro, even used) So I've been reading through the discussions on here, and liked the sound of the Yorkville YSM-1's. Of course, those...

    Lighting, lighting, lighting

Something I just learned from experience - make sure you think about lighting before you start doing your work. Black or dark accoustical foam really seems to suck up the light in a room and a room that was painted white gets a whole lot darker. I had that problem, but found a relatively cheap...

    Why a second hard drive?

RWhite - that's a cool system. Everyone - I hate to harp on this, but as a professional paranoid (read, system admin), I just wanna remind you all - backup, backup, backup! And keep a copy of your stuff offsite. Disasters happen and you wanna minimize damage. If you can't afford a safety...

Can anyone here do good horns? Collaboration possibility?

    Congrats, Teddie!

Can anyone here do good horns? Collaboration possibility?

Twas a cool trip. From Kitchener, Ontario to Truro, Nova Scotia - by car. 20 hours of driving. With a dog. Wheee! But the Christmas was great.

    Song lyrics

I mentioned this book in another thread in this forum, but I'll mention it again - take a look at "Tunesmith" by Jimmy Webb. Nice book on the craft and skills of songwriting - particularly lyric writing. (whee - I'm now a "Junior Member" - no longer a Newbie)

Can anyone here do good horns? Collaboration possibility?

We've done some playing around with it, but we took off east for Christmas and have been just getting back into the swing of things (no pun intended) Nice sounds, but nothing to show yet.

    Behringer MX602 Mixer?

The Nady looks pretty good - physically bigger then I would prefer, but <shrug> I'm not going to not get it for that. Unfortunately, it is pretty tough for me to listen to these things (the only mixers the places around here have a behringer) so... anyone else like the Nady SRM10/12/14?

    Behringer MX602 Mixer?

Ok... so the accumalated knowledge of this board seems to indicate that Behringer is not the way to go. Ok, that's cool. So, if I'm looking for a small footprint mixer with nice mic pre-amps, where should I go? Need 4 inputs, but will take more if the size isn't too bad. Looking for...

Talent - Some write, some sing, some play, few do it all

As a "do-it-yourself" response (as appropriate to this board) get him (or you!) to take a look at "Tunesmith" by Jimmy Webb. Talks a lot about the mechanics of song writing, particularly lyric writing. I'm one of the "play with the toys" guys on here too, but it has just about got me convinced...

    Behringer MX602 Mixer?

Is this mixer any good? I'm looking for a small mixer with nice preamps for doing some small recording setups at live gigs and a few other places - just a general purpose mixer, but a small footprint is definitely an asset. I've seen some decent reviews of it, but decided to ask this august...

    BEDROOM STUDIO??

Heya... I used the Auralex Roominator kits in my bedroom studio and it really made a huge difference. There's pics of it up at Grey's Studio site - http://greysfiles.com/Studio/Index.htm - OldGrover's studio. I called up Auralex and got them to give me a distributor. I ended up ordering...

Some questions for you recording gurus

Oh, and if you decide you want dimmers (for mixing in the dark?) make sure that you get the "no-hum" kind - standard dimmers make your lights really annoying. -cdr

    Sorry...have to bitch!

Well, I was going to rant even further, but I toned it down a fair bit. Just don't do it guys... just be decent people.

    Sorry...have to bitch!

I can only speak to this from selling computers point of view, but I'm sure it is the same for music equipment. If you frequent the small shops with the better service, knowledgable sales people and higher prices, if you get the advice and find what you want - and then walk out and buy it at...

    Michael Jones is up

Yeah, I'm not really whining. I'm glad to have what I do - it is a hell of an improvement over the nothing I had before. And, as I keep saying, it sounds good. I'll probably end up doing the basement up, since the room that is the studio will probably end up with a kid in it sometime.

    my small room!

Well, you've got more room then I did. Check out John's site and check out the studio site - read through the other posts here and you'll find the urls plus lots of other info. You can see my studio and comments on what I did on John and Brian's studio site.

    Michael Jones is up

Yeah, I agree, MisterQCue. My one room jobby just doesn't cut it... damn, I think I need to build an extension onto the house for a studio.. (Shit, I shouldn't have said that... my mind just started planning things out) Actually, I might end up doing a new studio in the basement if things take...

Simple setup for live gig needed

Hmm. Any other options for mics though? I figure one way or another I'll get it stored - video, tape, dat or minidisc, but I'm really at a loss as to what sort of mics can deal with the whole sound well. I like the idea of the PZM mics, but they don't seem appropriate as far as just sitting...
