I mentioned this book in another thread in this forum, but I'll mention it again - take a look at "Tunesmith" by Jimmy Webb. Nice book on the craft and skills of songwriting - particularly lyric writing. (whee - I'm now a "Junior Member" - no longer a Newbie)

As a "do-it-yourself" response (as appropriate to this board) get him (or you!) to take a look at "Tunesmith" by Jimmy Webb. Talks a lot about the mechanics of song writing, particularly lyric writing. I'm one of the "play with the toys" guys on here too, but it has just about got me convinced...

Is this mixer any good? I'm looking for a small mixer with nice preamps for doing some small recording setups at live gigs and a few other places - just a general purpose mixer, but a small footprint is definitely an asset. I've seen some decent reviews of it, but decided to ask this august...

Oh, and if you decide you want dimmers (for mixing in the dark?) make sure that you get the "no-hum" kind - standard dimmers make your lights really annoying. -cdr

I can only speak to this from selling computers point of view, but I'm sure it is the same for music equipment. If you frequent the small shops with the better service, knowledgable sales people and higher prices, if you get the advice and find what you want - and then walk out and buy it at...

Yeah, I'm not really whining. I'm glad to have what I do - it is a hell of an improvement over the nothing I had before. And, as I keep saying, it sounds good. I'll probably end up doing the basement up, since the room that is the studio will probably end up with a kid in it sometime.

Yeah, I agree, MisterQCue. My one room jobby just doesn't cut it... damn, I think I need to build an extension onto the house for a studio.. (Shit, I shouldn't have said that... my mind just started planning things out) Actually, I might end up doing a new studio in the basement if things take...

Hmm. Any other options for mics though? I figure one way or another I'll get it stored - video, tape, dat or minidisc, but I'm really at a loss as to what sort of mics can deal with the whole sound well. I like the idea of the PZM mics, but they don't seem appropriate as far as just sitting...
