    Studio Projects 8 Channel Pre?

I thought so too. Atleast, that's how it was a few months ago, but I checked some places and they were both $600. Where'd you find the Octane for $500? I think some people here would like to know that.

    Kick Mic

I wouldn't swear by it. The way I think of the SM57 is that it is pretty much the ultimate all-around mic. You can use it on virtually everything, and it will give you a good respresentation of it with good, clear sound quality. However, past that, you have to do the work to get it sounding...

    Tannoy monitors

I've seen a few people say that the Tannoy Reveals spank the Wharfedale Diamond Pro 8.2s. That's one of maybe two sub-$1000 active monitor pairs I've heard of being considered outright better, so that's gotta say something. Actually, I've heard those Proto J passives were pretty good too...

anyone know anything about reel to reel?

The way I always took it was that if you grew up working with tape, then you know it like the back of your hand by now, so you are one of the few people that it is worth bothering for. For everyone else, be extremely happy there is digital recording. :D

    Vocal Mic

Almost all of the Studio Projects condensers are in that range.

    Kick Mic

No one has the exact same drums, heads, tunings, rooms, and drummers, so taking all that into account is kind of pointless. The best thing to do is say what kind of sound you are looking for, and better yet, give an example of something to listen to. All the mics do have their own character...

    Kick Mic

I hear very good things about Aquarian heads, like their coating lasting more than 10 times longer than any Remo or Evans heads, and them being more durable in general. I've never tried any myself, but I have yet to come across a negative comment. They're all pretty much of comparable sound...

    Studio Projects 8 Channel Pre?

They both cost $600 everywhere I have looked. I have heard the Octane preamps are based on the DMP3. When I first saw the SP 828, I thought it might be based on the VTB-1, but it's not tube (although they are SS starved plate), so it would seem to be something else. You could always ask Alan...

    Kick Mic

You could give this a listen to get an idea of the differences between an AKG D112 and an Audix D6: http://forums.dm-gremlin.com/viewtopic.php?t=38&sid=bc750b3d362af9ae7a9cbe4c4d985efe There are also other mic comparisons on that site that are pretty interesting.

    Kick Mic

If you will notice, everyone is saying that different mics are "the best." That's because there is no "best" kick mic. Almost every one of the good ones runs about $200, and they're all intended for different kinds of sounds. None of them are really copies of eachother, with one just being...

    Service pac 2

Why is it sometimes referred to as the "dreaded sp 2?" I didn't have any problems with it. Funny thing with the anti virus software. After I installed sp 2, it said that it couldn't find any anti virus software on my comp. I have Norton, and it still works just fine. I guess it has some...

Aw, you suck lol. Give it a listen for us. ;) What similar price range mics do you have to compare it to?

cheapest site for mxl 603's ? ( need asap )

I have looked far and wide, and it doesn't appear that anyone who talks about recording on the internet owns any hehe. MF was sold out of them again last time I checked. I was thinking about just buying them for the heck of it, but their return policy with mics (like if they have one or not)...

    just got the sm57

I didn't even know it could come off. I turned it a few times every once in a while when I pick it up, but it has never moved.

    just got the sm57

I always thought that was funny, and so does everyone else who picks mine up. I sort of like it for some reason lol. I always mess with it heh.

cheapest site for mxl 603's ? ( need asap )

MF replaced the 603s with the 993s, which have a low end roll off and -10 dB pad. They're also supposed to be completely different mics, but I haven't heard a thing about what they really do sound like. Those are $170 for a matched pair.

    Best applications for Oktava Mk-319?

If you are using them on toms, that would likely mean they AREN'T being used as overheads, but as direct mics, on, yes, the toms hehe. For 319s, I would say putting them a few inches up and back from the toms would be a good place to start. You probably don't want to shove them right into the...

    Best applications for Oktava Mk-319?

Yes, they are quickly becoming the sticks of choice for many pros. You will notice that many have done away with their live and recording mic setups, as a pair of 319s can easily pick up the entire kit, when you are using one in each hand. They work well on toms, but being condensers, they...
