    hey

thanks for the commentaries... Pretty much right on the money as far as my opinion goes.... now, to convince the band leader, any tips? :)

    hey

Hey.... been a while (as usual) Early mix of a song I'm recording with a band recently... it's pretty 'heavy shiznit', according to the band.... I'd define it as heavy metal or something myself.... but in any case, the link: geocities.com/dughed101/catastrophe.mp3 (the usual, right click...

ProAudio 9 to Sonar? Should I upgrade?

not to mention some usable faders in the track view... and hiding tracks and resizing individual tracks and managing sends & returns and full control of the main outs as in, all in the track view as in, console view is redundant. !!!!!!

    Drum Miking With 4 Mics

Well, if you've only got 4 mics, we won't be talking about close miking :) And not that there's anything wrong with 4 mics... Little tip I've found useful, at least for a start: find a friend who can pound the drums for you a bit, and a good set of headphones. With only the overheads on...

    Athlon and Aardvark

Why not just email them? They've usually been fairly quick to respond to my emails (including the 5 or 6 I sent them while I was waiting for them to release the DP24/96). Their email is contact@aardvark-pro.com

    Burned CD's with "gaps"

I'll stick my nose in here :) Track at once recording adds a two second gap, due to the laser being shut off and turned back on between tracks. In disc at once recording, there is still that 2 second gap (a pregap is required before each track according to specs), but the laser isn't turned...

    Frequencey response on soundcards

The frequency response depends on the sampling rate of the soundcard... if it can sample at 48khz (most soundcards), then the highest frequency it can record is 24 khz. If it's 96khz, then it can record up to 48khz... your right, the theoretical (and generally the real world) limits of the...

hummm - if i hear this noise again i will scream

You say it works fine if only the output or only the input is connected... try lifting the ground on the output (i.e., disconnect the shield at on end of the connection). This might be the source of the ground loop... it's something to try, and cheaper then paying for shipping to get a...

    Newbie questions (short)

Sunking: I'm not quite sure if this is your problem, but don't even look at all the stuff you don't need yet. Follow the tutorial in the manual, and record tracks (i.e. set the source to your soundcard, hit the little [R] button to arm the track, push the record button, and sing or play...

    ahem, pirate copies...

ahem... buy an upgrade from v6. Seriously, I probably wouldn't've (nice grammar, eh?) recommended this for v7 or v8, but pa9 is such an improvement over the older versions... and plus, you'll be able to upgrade to 10 (if and when it comes out) for 80$, as opposed to the 4 or 5 hundred it...

    Plug-ins

How much ram do you have in your comp? The location of the plugins shouldn't make much if any difference, so long as you don't move them to a different directory once you've installed them.

    Ok, this is really messed

Does it do the same thing if you play a cd or a tape in the stereo? Maybe some shielding broke loose in the monitor or in the speakers. Try unhooking the speakers from the stereo and see if it still does it. Hope this is useful

    A quickie about RAM

Rebooting in 1 second... kindof like my 10 year old Atari 1040ST? (I can even get cartridge for stereo 16bit 50khz recording if I really want it) :)

    Pirate Software

Nor does the fact that piracy exists condone the fact that software companies are making shoddy software... but somehow I doubt that you're making a similar stand against bad products on programming forums. I think the sentiment we're try to get accross goes something like this: If you (as in...

    Correcting DC offset

Run the plugin as an offline command. Preview the effect first so that it can figure out what the offset is, then apply it... it should work (works for me)

    Really Stupid Midi Question

Either way will work. The aardvark doesn't have any built in midi synth, so either you have to plug the line out of the montego in to the aardvark, or the outputs of a damn keyboard to the aardvark : ) Hope this is useful William Underwood

    Arggg!! HELP! CDR TROUBLE!

I don't know if this has been mentioned yet, but check off the DMA box, it should help if your computer and burner are less than 5 years old.

    weird reverb??!?!?

Are you recording in stereo? Make sure the left track is panned 0 and the right track is panned 127... cakewalk may pan both tracks centered, which could give some weird effects. Hope this is useful William Underwood

    Mixing with pro audio 9

Onscreen mixers are almost never too great to mix with, partly due to the limitations of the mouse. Using groups and automation, though, you should be able to get pretty much anything done that you need done. William Underwood monty: the nature of the question would suggest that he was...

    mixer faders+effects

Congratulations! You've discovered the bain of homerecordists everywhere: Latency. Okay, enough cheesiness for this post. If you're running version 8 or lower, the lag is often a couple seconds, version 9 usually gets it down to a couple tenths of a second or less.
