How much ram do you have in your comp? The location of the plugins shouldn't make much if any difference, so long as you don't move them to a different directory once you've installed them.

Does it do the same thing if you play a cd or a tape in the stereo? Maybe some shielding broke loose in the monitor or in the speakers. Try unhooking the speakers from the stereo and see if it still does it. Hope this is useful

Are you recording in stereo? Make sure the left track is panned 0 and the right track is panned 127... cakewalk may pan both tracks centered, which could give some weird effects. Hope this is useful William Underwood
