    1010, Vegas, and XP

The only problem I've had since upgrading to XP with the Delta 1010 and Vegas is that I can no longer monitor anything unless it's recorded. I know that in Vegas I could never monitor anything through it while it was being recorded, but I could always hear it through the monitors by just...

Might buy a Fender Strat... ...But which one? Help!

Last month I went to buy a Strat, and walked out with a '52 Tele replica. I told myself I'd never spend the money for a replica, but that's before I played this one. It's a different sound and feel that a Strat, but like you were wanting, it can go from mellow to screaming in an instant...

What acoustic guitar record best ?

I'm talking about getting the best sound source that's possible while still being affordable, it doesn't have to be a $3000 guitar. All that means is you get the best guitar, drums, (whatever you are recording) that you can afford in order to get the best starting point you can. Then from...

What acoustic guitar record best ?

I am suprised to hear anyone say that it doesn't really matter about the guitar as long as you have good digital effects and EQ. I think it's always better to get the best sound source possible, then apply as little effects/EQ as needed for the final sound. Effects/EQ can do a lot, but getting...

    Recording Acoustic Guitar

I think the Arts are good for a budget. I've got the Dual MP and it's not bad. I haven't used the others in that price range for extended periods though.

    880vx Pre's.....

It'll probably sound better, but no matter what equipment you run into it, you are always gonna have that compression in the 880, even in the highest quality mode I could always still hear it on quiet tracks. I stopped using mine completely after using the Delta 1010 for a few days. The 1010...

I'm a MIDIdiot, so I could be way off.

Cool, thanks for the info. Sucks that Vegas can't do it, but good to know it's possible.

    Recording Acoustic Guitar

You can get a good condenser for acoustic guitar, the mxl603s for easily less than $100. I have one and it's a great mic for $75 or so. I don't think it can be beat for the price, but I only own it and a Shure BG4.1 that are small condensers, so maybe other people have different ideas.

    Are mackies worth it?

I'm wanting to listen to the Mackie HR824s, are those the ones you are talking about? I've read a few reviews and they rated well. I couldn't find any info about HR28s. I definitely think if you feel they are superior and are willing/able to stretch your budget then it's worth it to do it...

Wait a minute... Didn't I already reply to this exact question in another thread in Recording Techniques? ;)

    Recording Acoustic Guitar

If you are going for a fuller sound and you happen to have another mic, stereo miking can really fill out the sound when done right. Here's another thread you might be interested in that covers lots of stuff about acoustic guitar miking...

    Recording Guitar

I like the Delta cards personally, and have heard others talk well about them for the most part. www.midiman.com. They are the only cards I've used, so I can't say much about anything else. Definitely better than just getting a Soundblaster or similar. If you are looking at mixers, check out...

I'm a MIDIdiot, so I could be way off.

I've spent a couple hours today reading about Midi, and searching here for information. I think I've got an idea for what I want to do, but haven't seen specifically what I'm attempting described anywhere. See if this makes any sense to those that know far more about Midi than I. The goal...

Win XP PRO...Anyone Else Got it?

I was unable to install XP on a Win98 machine because of blocks with several 98 drivers. I installed 2000 on the machine, then upgrade to XP as an experiment, and it worked fine. From that I would say XP is more compatible with 2000 drivers. Makes sense, considering it's based more on 2000/NT...

What acoustic guitar record best ?

I've recorded a Gibson, couple of Ovations, three Taylors, and various other no name guitars. Nothing even comes close to any of the Taylors. The difference was so great that I went out and bought a Taylor for myself. Ovation is by far the worst I've recorded, worse than a $100 cheapo guitar...

My new sweetie - Taylor K-14

That's a great guitar, and the smell is part of the experience. ;) I've played several Koa Taylors, and they were all excellent. I picked my 814-BCE (Brazilian Rosewood) over the Koa though, just my personal preference in the sound. The thing is, every Taylor I've ever played is very nice...

    How would you spend $1500?

Not impossible, but way too general. There are so many options and so many various amounts of money that can be spent. You could probably start recording for $150 instead of $1500 if you had to. It depends on how many inputs/outputs you need, how many things you want to record at once, and...

Acoustic guitar, mic on the inside?

I've used a couple Baggs setups that place a tiny mic in the guitar. Those sound very similar live to putting a mic in front of the guitar, so I guess it would work ok for recording. I would think though that a mic external to the guitar that you could change placement on for different sounds...

    Favorite Acoustic Guitars

I like Taylors. I've recorded a 410 and a Baby, and own an 814-bce. I've never played one I would consider bad. I would stay away from the Ovations for recording cause I don't think they sound as good as any of the Martin or Taylor models. And i agree about not getting a 12 string as a main...

Where can I ask a very detailed mobo/ps question?

Have you tried the Compaq site? They have a message forum, and a place to ask questions. If you haven't, I would just call them up and ask their support about a 400W power supply for the thing. Especially if it's really proprietary like you mentioned. Someone there should be able to give you...
