MY last reply was to what Bruce posted... and in the meantime while I was replying, Shailat put up some very good thoughts.
I agree with what you are saying, and you hit right at the heart of what I was talking about by mastering at home to my satisfaction. I think it's fun to work with...
I definitely understand that and feel that when people are commenting on the vocal they are talking more about the performance and realize it's nothing ANY mastering engineer could have done to help that... and honestly I think this could have been a more, for lack of a better word, "scientific"...
I got a case from directron.com with a super quiet power supply and fans for my P4. It stays plenty cool and it's definitely quieter than any other computer I've ever had. Rackmount cases are very nice, but if you are looking to save money and don't need the rackmount, get a less expensive...
relative and subjective
Besides being fun, I think this might prove that most home recordists can't tell the difference between a good mastering job and a bad one. When I say good and bad mastering, I'm only referring to the professional opinion and the differences only a select few can hear...
Without listening to much of any of that, it's clear to me which is the original, but the other two seem close. I'm listening through computer speakers, and not my monitors, but really it's hard for me to tell that much of a difference between what I think are the two mastered versions. Of...
Thanks for the site. If that Readyhost is fast I think we have a winner. They even say they guarantee 99% uptime, while this other place I'm trying doesn't guarantee uptime whatsoever. I got a free month with no setup fee with www.atfreeweb.com, so I'm gonna give them a shot. Then if they...
That phpwebhosting looks good, but has anyone used a hosting service that allows for ASP and DB access? I found one site so far, Brinkster.com that has ASP 3.0 and creation of Access DBs for storage. Not the ideal situation if the site is gonna get a lot of traffic, but at least they offer the...
The 133 SDRAM isn't gonna care if the FSB is running at 100Mhz, so that will be fine. The AGP on that BP-6 I thought was only 2x, which I guessed that if you put a 4x card in there it would only run at 2x AGP... or in other words the video card would be limited by the bandwidth of the AGP slot...
Cool site, thanks for the link.
I would say that 400MB isn't a bad size, but 1.5 times the ram in the machine might be a better factor. If you have 512MB of ram, you probably don't want to set the virtual memory page file to 400MB. Somewhere between 512MB and 768MB would be better. Anything...
I think I just got lucky, but I have the exact same motherboard running a 1GHz at 133 FSB with a 2x AGP card and have never had a problem with it and a GeForce card. I did have stability issues with a Voodoo 5500 card in this same machine and so I switched to a GeForce2 card and the problems...
Ive heard lots of arguments that give the "well, CDs are only 16bit/44.1 so why bother with higher rates when recording" and I've read where lots of people refute that by saying it always helps when adding effects/EQ to have the higher resolution. So if I was buying a soundcard only to record...
I think you already have the best application for working with loops; Acid is great for that. Since you mentioned getting other equipment, are you asking for recommendations for software that you can use once you move into other things besides just using loops? Like multitracking, etc.
Listening to Secret.... Might be the file quality, but the cleaner rythym guitar is overwhelming the vocals in spots. Maybe the vocal just needs to come up a little more, can't understand most of the words, but what I hear of it sounds good. Good voice for the song.
I like it, especially...
I got "Insomnia"... otherwise why would I be up at this hour? I like it. Oddly enough it sounds like Smurf hassling music... in that it's a sinister groove. :D Kinda like Satriani from the pre-Surfing with the Alien days. Great guitar playing. Drums and percussion sound cool too. I like...
Nevermind, I'm an idiot sometimes...
Got it downloaded; I like that guitar solo part. And I agree that those drums need some more variety. Maybe change up that rythym guitar part a little, as it tends to drone on and on a little too much for me. Probably changing the drum patters up, and...
lol
ok, for some reason when I click the link I get an error... yet if I copy/paste the URL I get a page with nothing but a wedding picture (or so it appears.) That's cool and all, but I was wanting to hear the mp3. :D Or is that what Rusty meant when he said something about great sense of...
I'm agree with Gidge on liking a more natural sound with just guitar and mic, but sounds like this situation makes it tough. How much have you worked with miking the guitar itself or the amp even, concentrating on removing room noise by where you place the mic? I would hate to drop that idea...
Very nice playing, though not my thing in terms of tone. That whammy stuff is cool, and something I've never been able to do. I can definitely hear that Steve Vai comparison as it's very much in that style, and even a little Metallica type stuff in places... but Rusty, do you mean Eric Johnson...
Are you miking the amp? What have you tried so far to record it? If you are getting the sound you want through the amp, it's a great start. Now just get in there and move the mic around until it's picking up the sound you want. If there's a couple of ya, one put on the headphones and play...
