    hello, newbie recording audiobook

I gave a quick look to Substack, and while I see the text from your books, I don't see any way to access an audio version. If you could provide a direct link to the audio portion, perhaps then we can figure this out. At the very worst, Elly's suggestion of doing an audio capture is...

Zoom R16: Routing inputs to tracks.

It's a simple thing.... It's called SWAP in the manual, and takes about 10 seconds. I think what it actually does is to reassign the wave file in the the project, not copy it or anything. See page 24 of the manual. It was just covered in this thread...

    Zoom R16 reverb

I never worry about "garbage collection". I buy SD cards 10 at a time and use them like we used to use tape. Do a project on a card, then dump the data to computer and store the original card in an envelope in a file box. It's a rarity that I bother to delete anything from a card, unless...

    RWRP middle pickup question

I think Beagle has a few things to try. It's almost impossible to diagnose something like this without the guitar in hand.

TEAC A-3340S what mixer to use?

I believe the Model 2 mic inputs are unbalanced 1/4" jacks, not balanced TRS jacks. So you would need XLR to 1/4" TS. Again, if you are using condensers, then you need the external power supply, and then drop that connector down to the 1/4" input of the mixer. That's lots of extra bits just...

    Help Please

I don't see the issue. There's a slot, and basically there's no way to misthread the tape as long as the covers are in place. These things were pretty much designed to be idiot proof. All the intricate "threading" takes place when you turn the lever to play or record.

TEAC A-3340S what mixer to use?

The Dual RP uses phantom power, which the boards don't supply, and they don't pass that power through. They are designed to boost dynamic and ribbon mics. Yes, you can buy phantom supplies (figure $25 to $50 per channel). But back in the day, you didn't have Ebay or Amazon to buy them...

TEAC A-3340S what mixer to use?

The biggest issue I would have with a Model 2a would be the lack of phantom power. The majority of my mics today are condensers. Even back when my buddy had his studio with a Model 5 /80-8 setup, there was no phantom. The mics were Shure 57s and 58s, Senn 421, and and EV. Of...

Superstition (Stevie Wonder) - acoustic solo guitar arrangement

That's a song I never would have expected to hear as a fingerstyle acoustic number. Nicely played, Jimmy.

    RWRP middle pickup question

Before you rewire things, maybe try changing the height of the either the neck or middle pickup to adjust the relative volume. That might mitigate a bit of the cancellation you get from the reversed wiring, as you do with your SG by changing the volumes. I have a Guild S100 with a reverse...

    Zoom R16 reverb

OK, activating reverb is a bit tricky. There are two ways they do effects... inserts and Send/Returns. Reverb and chorus are done via send/returns. Generally you record dry and add the reverb as an effect post recording. To do that, first you need to choose the type of reverb (hall...

    Zoom R16 track assignment

Sorry, I didn't see the other post. I was on vacation last week, only now getting caught up. I'll check out that post now. Working from a tablet, I didn't have the manual available so I couldn't remember what the exact term was. SWAP is the right one. That does it immediately...

    Zoom R16 track assignment

You can't assign an input to any track. The work around is to copy the recorded track to a new destination. It's in the manual . Granted it's not an elegant solution, it does allow you to use things like a condenser for tracks without phantom powe. Also, you still have the second bank, so...

"More To This" Marc Scibillia cover

I finally got a chance to listen. I didn't catch the first version but as it stands now, it's very nice. As usual, your playing and vocals are spot on.

    Songs from a Broken Corral

With regards to the song composition, again listening to only a couple of the songs, I felt like they also need some "polish". Some of the phrasing seemed forced. This is coming from someone who is TERRIBLE at writing lyrics. I don't have a poet's sense for word play. I'm a big fan...

    Songs from a Broken Corral

I gave the first two tracks a quick listen. My impression was they are basically demo level recordings. The vocals need polish, there are lots of off key spots. The same applies to the guitar. The arrangements are pretty sparse. If I was a record producer or an artist looking for...

Mid-side decoding issue - Total silence from the two side tracks

... but a very good rant. We often use terms interchangeably when they aren't. We might know and understand what's going on and what we really mean but when trying to explain things to someone else, using the wrong term can cause confusion.

    Nylon String/Guitar Question

Are you tuners steel or plastic posts? Most nylon guitars should have plastic. The ones that have steel posts usually are chamfered.

Mid-side decoding issue - Total silence from the two side tracks

That is exactly what the OP was experiencing initially. His two side channels were inverted polarity but were summing in mono (stereo width of the pan control was 0) hence they were turning into a complete null, leaving only the mid microphone. The error was that the side channels were NOT...
