I have a Fender Champion 40 (watt) (solid state) amplifier, which I use as my practice amp. It has some onboard presets and effects, and there's a particular combination of presets and effects that has gotten me the best sound I've been able to get for a particular part of one of my songs (a...
Right, but I'm almost always just using this for singing practice (just me singing, nothing else), and at most I will use it for just me and a guitar...
Also, one more thing just to make sure I'm totally understanding correctly. What you're saying applies to a pedal of any effect type, right?
So you took the example of a distortion pedal when saying that if you turn down the level of the pedal the pedal gain is still the same but it's not...
Thanks Rob.
I turn the knob on the gain on the input channel on the mixer (not on the the Great River) to 70% and anything over that it clips (though it gives me just enough volume at 70%).
The reason I haven't tried anything with the Great River is because I just got it. I got it for the...
Thanks for the reply and suggestions. So I could just get a Cloudlifter and plug the SM7B into the Cloudlifter, and then the Cloudlifter into the mixer.
But if I were to use what I initially suggested above and go SM7B to Great River to mixer, could that cause any damage to the mixer/speakers...
I use several guitar effects pedals (a couple analog and a Line 6 HX Stomp). I've been taught that the "level" knob/parameter for an effect simply controls the volume of that effect. But honestly sometimes it seems like it's more than that. For example, take distortion effects - when I turn the...
Thanks for your reply.
So you think it's possible that using the SM7B as I have with the mixer might have caused the damage to the mixer I described?
The problem is that the SM7B just sounds so much better and I've gotten so used to it for my practicing... Is there a higher output mic that can...
Thanks for your reply.
So I should clarify my issue and my gear.
My mic is a Shure SM7B and the external preamp is a Great River ME-1NV.
I've been using the Shure SM7B into the mixer (Stagepas) for practicing singing live for a while now... But I have to turn the volume on the mixer channel that...
Hi all,
I'm singing into a dynamic microphone which is plugged into a stand-alone preamp via XLR cable, and then I'm running the preamp via XLR cable into one of the inputs of my mixer which is part of my PA system. The PA system is the Yamaha Stagepas 600i. I think I remember reading somewhere...
Hey Dave, thanks for this reply.
I use the SM7b into the mixer all the time... It sounds fine to me...But it's all I've ever used as I only started singing several years ago, and I'm still a newb with the technical stuff, and so I don't have a whole lot to compare it to. So would it be better...
My bad everyone, completely lost track of this thread because I ended up no longer needing to use this setup.
But thanks for all of the feedback; got the gist of it, though some of the jargon is a bit above my head...
Thanks for your reply.
I have Sure SM7B mic. Mixer is Yamaha Stagepas 600i. Interface is Motu 896mk3 hybrid.
Good to know I likely won't lose any signal.
I think I have one of the 1/4 jack plug cables somewhere! Need to dig around.... But this is a different route than what I was envisioning...
