I'm continuing in my quest to ask many of the questions I should have asked here on day 1. I know latency is undesirable, but: What is the difference between input and ouput latency? Is latency (or a lack thereof) based on processing power?

This is something that has puzzled me since I began recording music. The faders in Cubase go to +6 Db. But for some reason, I have the feeling that going beyond 0 on the track faders is bad. How do you guys approach single coil hum? Is it a problem for you? it annoys me, and it seems that I can always pick it out of a mix unless the guitar is palced pretty low down. I know it's a feature of every single coil guitar but I was wondering if you have any thoughts on how to handle it?
