What MIDI instruments are equal to or superior to GigaStudio?

Thanks - it's not a matter of hating Giga, it's just that it's gone extinct. I've actually never had a Giga setup but as far as I'm aware it's not possible to get one up and running now because all support for it is long gone and it requires activation even if you found a set of disks. I've also...

The subject line pretty much says it.

Do you have a favorite audiophile forum?

Any suggestions for a good audio gear forum to get info about amps, speakers, etc.? For the listening end, not the recording end.

Does Reaper have a function to render MIDI to .wav?

Yes, running the midi files through a synth, which is the only way you'll hear them. I don't remember what the specific steps are in the ancient version of Cakewalk I was using but I know it was possible using midi and SoundFonts.

Subject pretty much says it - can you take MIDI tracks and mix them down to a .wav file?

Thanks - that did the trick.

How to mix to a track?

In this particular case I'm isolating a vocal by exactly lining up a vocal mixed with a track and the original track and phase inverting one of them. I know there are apps that do this but from the couple I've demo'd the results are lackluster. Another reason might be to A/B different mixes.

How to mix to a track?

That's how you mix tracks - it has to be done as a real time recording? There's no "Mixdown" function?

How to mix to a track?

How do you mix to a new track? Don't find this mentioned in the user guide. My main familiarity is with Cakewalk, Reaper seems to have avoided using the nomenclature found within Cakewalk. Thanks!

What does Cakewalk do that Reaper doesn't do and vice-versa?

Title pretty much says it. Anyone highly familiar with both? Thanks!

A/B sample - which do you like better

I fooled around with a multiband compressor to mitigate the low end on the piano to try and bring out her voice. A is the original B is the eq'd version. Below is a sampler of some other performances of hers - you might want to lower the volume, the level is a lot hotter than the other files...

A/B sample - which do you like better

She's singing along to a pitch-shifted karaoke track which is why the piano sounds burbly. I'm playing with the resultant mix. Yes, she's a fantastic singer though it's strictly a hobby for her.

A/B sample - which do you like better

Two examples of the same sections of a mix. Which do you prefer and why? To clarify - I didn't do the original recording of either the voice or the piano - they're singing along to a karaoke track, the piano has been pitch-shifted from the original key so sounds a bit burbly, I'm playing around...

Don't know what you're talking about. *cough* 8-) Yeah I just picked an image to have a picture. I've now changed it to a dual 1/4" to stereo TRS 1/8" cable. *HAPPY NOW??* :ROFLMAO: Thanks.

For example two 1/4" to one stereo 1/8", etc. Is there a brand you find to be consistently reliable? *Not* Monster cable. Stuff like this. Thanks.
