Studio monitors response curves measured today with REW (input please)...

Thanks. It's the same image I've seen at noaudiophile.com. That curve looks visually similar to mine... but when taking the dB scale (y axis) into consideration, mine is actually much worse (like about 3x worse). I'm not sure why. Maybe it's due to room resonances. However, I've tested vastly...

Studio monitors response curves measured today with REW (input please)...

Thanks for the reply. That curve (I've seen before, at noaudiophile.com) was reportedly done outdoors. Most of it (apart from the prominent bass peak) falls roughly within about a 5dB band, which I would call pretty good. My curves, on the other hand, sit roughly within a 15dB band, which is...

Studio monitors response curves measured today with REW (input please)...

Hi folks. I just acquired a pair of used Behringer Truth B2031A monitors, as I wanted something with 8" woofers (and also front-ported, as I need to have them backed up against the wall of my small home studio). Here is my initial measurement graph (1/6 smoothing), showing the left and right...

Thanks, Rob. I didn't opt for the LP6 monitors (yet). Like you, I couldn't hear anything annoying from that video - maybe because my ears are old! As I usually work at low volumes, it probably wouldn't be an issue for me, anyway. I think the later version of the speaker had better noise suppression.

Hi all, I've been offered a pair of Kali Audo LP6 studio monitors (original version from around 2020). Unfortunately, I am not in a position to test them before buying. I read that many people are bothered by the self-noise hiss they produce. Can anyone tell me the frequency range of the hiss...

    Song Structuring..

i don't have a fixed formula. I just compose as I go along, and make many changes before I'm satisfied. The main rules for me are to make sure things stay interesting and repetition is not overdone.

Solved What do you do about computer fan noise?

I made sure I bought a very quitet PC and then I installed a graphics card that rarely spins its fans.

2002 Alesis Nanoverb and Alesis Nanocompressor still good in 2025?

Thanks, Rich. I must look into that. Meanwhile, can anyone advise me on power adapter requirements for the Nanoverb and the Nanocompressor? Alesis recommends using their "P3" power adapter for both units, which I gather has an output of AC 9V, 1Amp. I already have a couple of adapters, one...

2002 Alesis Nanoverb and Alesis Nanocompressor still good in 2025?

Thank you kindly for the helpful replies, folks. It now turns out that I'll be getting these two Alesis units as a gift, so I'll soon be able to judge their suitability for myself. I expect they will be fine, based on what some of you said. If not, I will probably revert to using DAW plugins for...

2002 Alesis Nanoverb and Alesis Nanocompressor still good in 2025?

Thanks for your input, Papanate. I'm not terribly erudite when it comes to digital audio technology. For example, I'm not familiar with the term 'bit response' which you used. While the Nanoverb sounded very nice to my ears (as fars I could tell, listening via YouTube), I don't fully trust my...

2002 Alesis Nanoverb and Alesis Nanocompressor still good in 2025?

Hi all, I've been offered an old Alesis Nanoverb and an old Alesis Nanocompressor for a very low price indeed, by someone who is no longer involved with audio engineering. I don't normally use rack gear, because for my music production, I use mostly analog guitar pedals and DAW plugins, which I...

Is there a guitar multi effects pedal with a rotary speaker effect built in ?

Did you end up finding one? Is it any good? If not, there are these: Sonicake Matribox II, Mooer GE200, Mooer GE150, BOSS Gt-1, Zoom GIX four. These all have a rotary effect. I've only tried the one in the Zoom G1X four, and it isn't very impressive, IMO. I'd like to find one with two speed...

What causes a crackle momentarily, at louder peaks, when using a multi-effects pedal?

Thank you, Keith. I Thought I had found a way to overcome the issue: by setting the recording level on the audio interface to extremely low. While that works sometimes, to an extent, it also makes everything too quiet to hear what I'm playing, when recording, so I'm experimenting with what you...

Using REW and EQ APO - tackling a big hump!

Update: I've now got a significantly smoother and flatter curve, after stuffing rags into the rear bass ports. I think at least part of the problem was that by necessity, the left monitor is very close to the corner of the room. The right one is just close to a wall. There's more of a bass...

What causes a crackle momentarily, at louder peaks, when using a multi-effects pedal?

Good insights and advice there, DM60 - thank you! Yes, I have struggled a bit regarding projects with many tracks (with several double-tracked tracks) and then getting the mixing right and the master level right, so I will definitely be referring back to what you said here. Thanks again!

What causes a crackle momentarily, at louder peaks, when using a multi-effects pedal?

That's helpful, DM60 - thank you. From what you said, I'm guessing it is digital clipping then. That could be useful to know. Yes, your suggestion about reducing the levels on the audio interface, considerably below the level that the warning LEDs light up, does seem to work, sometimes. Does...

What causes a crackle momentarily, at louder peaks, when using a multi-effects pedal?

So I have a Sonicake Matribox multi-FX guitar pedal, that is generally well-regarded. Unfortunately, I often hear a crackle, momentarily at some higher peaks of the waveform, when using some effects combinations. It looks like it shouldn't be happening, because the level warning lights on my...

Using REW and EQ APO - tackling a big hump!

Thank you for the suggestion, B. I think it's worth a shot. I have a foam mattress in the garage which might do it, if I can devise a way to attach it to the ceiling.

Using REW and EQ APO - tackling a big hump!

TY... No chance of fitting something like that on my desk, so it looks like software will have to be the solution, after all.

Using REW and EQ APO - tackling a big hump!

Okay - thank you for the insights, Rob. I don't honestly notice any obvious problems when listening to most music, especially when I have Equalizer APO compensating for my room resonances to some extent. However, I'd like to make the curve as smooth as possible (maybe close to a Fletcher Munson...
