    February Album Writing Month (FAWM)

The idea of this is to get motivated to write more. Listening to others' work also can inspire.

    Hopefully picking this up

Really? I've seen bands with laptops in use for them. One decent keyboard/MIDI controller is all they need.

    Hopefully picking this up

I had a Korg MS20 (original generation). Got it when polyphonic synths were getting huge, so picked it up used for less than $150, though the cv inputs would allow me to get creative, but not really. Languished in the dark, dusty and damp basement for quite a few years, when I finally plugged...

In-ear monitor vs headphones vs stage monitor

Be aware that USB monitoring of pre-recorded tracks with a mixer is very limited - the ability to control the volume of the prerecorded track and your live (mic) singing can be limited or non-existent. If you are only using it to playback tracks and get signals out to a PA or monitor system...

    What is a producer ?

Saying that you shouldn't post while shit-faced is 'having a go'? Seek help, Smithers. If you are 'a lot more clever than I come across' (your words), prove it by NOT posting when you are shit-faced, then having to come back and apologize after.

    Please Delete my Account

Look, you are the one who admits to being a drunk, and the evidence of all the stupid posts (then apologies when you sober up) you make when drunk is right there for everyone to see. Sorry if you feel I am 'having a go' at you, but you need to look at yourself in the mirror. Its not like this...

Maybe just stop getting on the internet when you are totally shit-faced?

In-ear monitor vs headphones vs stage monitor

As someone who runs open mics regularly, I would not want anyone asking for an in-ear system to be plugged in when they play - for one thing, the mixing board they use may not have another output that could be used for this, there is the extra set up time involved (checking levels and balance)...

    Mixer set-up basics - newbie

You set the Gain so that the maximum (loudest) volume doesn't overdrive the input (is there a red 'over' light on each channel?) You balance out each input's volume in comparison to each other with the volume controls on each channel. The main volume is used to control the overall volume.

    USB C to 1/4" audio

Connect the iPad to the computer via USB-C to USB, why go through the audio interface?

Is a short scale 28-30" bass something needed in an instrument collection?

On one of the songs I recorded recently, I used a VSTi bass synth for a drone note that really adds some 'foreboding' as well as a deep low end to the verses. On another song, I used a MIDI-keyboard driven low bass line on a song to balance out the (real) bass line which was played higher (key...

    Acoustic pinboards

I had never heard that name (pinboards) before, so googled it. Those are office dividers. If you have free access to them, fine, use them, but don't waste your money trying to treat your mix/tracking room with them. You can build your own traps, or buy them. 2" thick is usually fine for side...

    Ghost Wind-noise on condenser microphone

Good luck in the US, heat-making bulbs are pretty much gone except for specialty bulbs like 3-ways. Buy some dessicant packs (they are cheap on amazon) and put them in a ziplock with the mic.

What's that tweed case for the Gretsch - Les Paul size? I didn't think they were long enough.

    Bedroom Studio Desk Ideas; Tables?

Buy a 4'x8' smooth birch veneer 3/4" plywood at Home Depot or Lowes, cut it to the exact size you need. They sell the table legs there in a variety of styles that screw into a metal plate that is screwed into the slab bottom. If you want a pull-out keyboard drawer, those can be purchased at...

    Mixing trade offs

One of the reasons why it can better to not print FX on tracks when tracking.
