    The New Tone Thread

Here's a useful Infographic I came across today. It may help us to discuss our tones more accurately.

New amp for Greg - Bladow! (lots of pics)

This is what I had. Apparently it's the 1959 JCM 800 and is fairly uncommon. All I remember is that I got much more than what I paid for it, even selling it via my local music shop and allowing them commission. The buyer paid the shipping and it went to Northern Ireland.

New amp for Greg - Bladow! (lots of pics)

I haven't bought it yet, but I have a couple of pics. Does anything stand out, Greg? The push-button switch cover for setting the FX loop gain is missing, but the switch works.

My first new original for almost two decades, lol.

So as you all know, my stock in trade is doing slavish cover versions of my favourite songs. :D I lost confidence in writing years ago, but I thought I'd better have another go. This piece of music began life as an improvised session by my son on drums. I picked sections I liked, chopped them...

Greg L and Bubba po collab - "Last Gang In Town" by the Clash.

Greg suggested this collaboration. He supplied the drums and bass, I did the guitars, vocals and mix. I''m going send Greg my contributions so he can do his own version. I hope you like it. https://soundcloud.com/bubba_po/last-gang-in-town

    The New Tone Thread

Well, here's two of the stems from my track. Bear in mind that the sound was tailored to fit in the mix, and does so very well. Guitar: Yamaha SG clone, bridge pickup, tone and volume up full. (1 - Amp: Vox AC15, top boost channel, (bass 1 o'clock, treble dimed, volume 3 o'clock); Master 3...

London Calling - continuing with my Clash obsession

If I keep going like this, I'm going to have enough for an album. :D Comments welcome, as always. :) Edited to say that extra backing vocals and howls were supplied by our very own Greg L. And a fine job he made of...

Old track of mine remastered - is it an improvement?

Back in 2011 when I joined this forum, I posted my first recording project since using a Tascam Porta-one in the eighties. Done on A Roland BR-800, most of the mixing decisions had to be made early on, for better or worse, and a proper remix was not really possible I decided to put the stereo...

Cover of "Complete Control" by the Clash.

I haven't recorded anything for a while, so I thought I'd chuck this rough-and-ready track together. Now I've broken the ice I intend to start on my first original for years, which will be built up from a creative drum performance. Thanks in advance for any listens or comments you give it...

Thoughts on an unusual-looking drum mic setup

I came across this picture of the drum recording setup for Public Service Broadcasting, a British duo that combines ambient, melodic synth music, more conventional drums and guitar and vintage audio clips to great effect. (IMO, YMMV) I'm intrigued at the x/y pair pointing at the ceiling above...

    Reverse Reverb effect - tutorial.

Hi, a short while ago in the MP3 clinic, I posted a song that had a reverse reverb effect on the drum intro and lead vocal. It's a strange effect with a disquieting feel to it, so is not for everybody, but I've had a couple of requests as to how it's done so I thought I'd share. This is how the...
