What is the difference in mic/instrument/speaker cable? I know mic cable has 2 conductors and a shield and instrument has 1 conductor and a shield but what would happen if I used mic cable as instrument cable? Would it be noisy?
I only have one mic cable at this time and its a cheapo that came with a cheapo recording package from Musicians Friend, most of which I'm sending back, except the mic. I also only have one mic, mxl990, also a cheapo. When I track vocals with the 990 into an audiobuddy, it sounds clean, not...
I ordered the wharfedale's, along with a 1010LT sound card, based on the many suggestions I have read on the bbs. They came in a couple days ago but my little recording space was in no shape to setup em up........Wendy's sacks surrounding my chair, a seriously overflowing ashtray, multiple...
Does anyone have experience with or own both the dmp-3 and yamaha mg mixer? I was set on the dmp-3 but started thinking about future needs and the possibility of not being able to afford an additional preamp for awhile. I own an audiobuddy. Would the yamaha pre's be better than the audiobuddy...
I'm thinking of sending the audiobuddy back and getting a dmp-3. will I notice a big difference? in clarity? detail? I also need a brighter mic for vocals. would I be better off getting the mic and skipping the dmp3 for now?
Ok, I met a fellow in the forum on Jack Johnson's website. He has a collection of live recordings that need some editing.....probably just some fade in/outs, eqing to get rid of some rumble, etc. I opened my mouth and now I have a 50 track project to work on.........as if I don't have enough...
Can someone reccommend a low cost LD condensor that does'nt sound dark? I need something for vocals and would also like something farely versatile to maybe mic acoustic guitar and a guitar amp. My budget is $200-$300 but less would give me more money toward other gear. My only mic at the...
vocal sounds bassy? flat? not sure. I'm doing the vocals and guitars through an MXL990, audiobuddy, onboard sound. Is my mic placement bad, need to eq something? I'm about 8 inches from the mic, peaking around -4db. The vocal is just a quick take to get some advice. I'd like to finish this...
Trying the XLR outs of my Duoverb for the first time (got my only good instrument cable back and put some strings on my electric). I hate the XLR outs on my Duoverb. They are'nt dynamic at all. Give me a mic anyday.
I mached up a beat in Fruity Loops from an SRV song and tried to make up a...
I'm thinking of getting a Delta1010Lt card. I see it has RCA jacks. How do I hook my preamp up to this? The pre has TRS jacks. Will I need adapters? Will this degrade the signal? Forgive me, but what is the technical difference in balanced and unbalanced inputs? I just want to be able to...
I wrote this for my friend Terry, he's in the Air Force stationed in Alaska. Maybe this will cheer him up. It is just a draft. It was written starting at 11:30pm and posted on sound click at 4am. It's just a drum loop, an acoustic guitar, and my sickly flat voice. Currently I am sick, it's...
Currently I'm tracking through onboard sound. I really need a compressor but I also really need a good sound card. For now, I can only get one. I have read that with a 24/96 soundcard, alot less compression is needed to tame peaks while tracking due to the greater dynamic range, as opposed to...
Ok, I know I'm not alone here. I would like to make some drum lines in Sonar. I have no clue how to use the Piano Roll and as I've seen here in the forum there are plenty of others. Please excuse the ignorance. I am requesting a tutorial/how to from the good people of the homerecording bbs...
just need some feedback if anyone has the time. 2 clips and one short song posted so far. what can I do to improve my recordings? do my ideas suck? please don't hold back, I ain't no sissy.
the clip "drive" was recorded through a pc mic and I did the drums with fruity loops. "just a...
This is just a 50 second clip of a tune I'm working on called Drive. I know it's kinda boomy sounding cause I recorded it using a $2 mic and $10 pc speakers. I can't hear the bass on pc speakers. No vocals yet. It's just not happening with the $2 mic. Anyway, drive it into the ground or say...
I want to record vocals, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, and bass. I know that I can't do much quality wise on my budget but I was hoping some of you could help me decide. For a mic it's between a Studio Projects B1 and an MXL V67G ($100 each). For a preamp it's between an M Audio...
