    Tascam M-250

If that’s the case I’d say US$500 would be about right. $700 what I paid for mine 20 years ago

Balanced to unbalanced question (X-post to Analog)

Thanks for the tip. Labeling 1-16 is going to be a chore!

Trance MIDI drum files anywhere???? (Particularly the ridiculous fast snare)

So, wanting to experiment a bit with trance. The songs are pretty formulaic, and one particularl feature the build up ending with a ridiculously fast snare. Trying to find a MIDI file for that. There are plenty of sites that will sell you samples, and advertise MIDI files, but almost all of them...

Balanced to unbalanced question (X-post to Analog)

Thanks. That’s what I initially thought to do and I’ve a couple of 5m TRS snakes in my Thomann basket.

Balanced to unbalanced question (X-post to Analog)

So, I have a Creamware TDAT 16 with TRS balanced I/O which are ring hot of all things. The owners manual says if you use unbalanced make sure your TS connectors only go in "One Position" so you don't short the (+) hot to ground. This would imply that you can use just (+) hot and ground and...

SM57 - fitting a Chinese replacement into one (badly)

I think the Chinese capsules have a higher impedance than the Shure. I had thought about doing the same thing with the Pyle SM57 lookalikes, and using a Shure transformer but IIRC the transformer is a step up which would increase the impedance even more. I think there's a discussion of this on...

Cheap DC-DC converters tapped off +/-15VDC rails? (PSU for Soviet synth)

Thanks! I also just realized the negative 3v is for driving LEDs I think the cheaper one should be ok

Cheap DC-DC converters tapped off +/-15VDC rails? (PSU for Soviet synth)

Hello, I have a USSR build string machine (sort of a Crumar Orchestrator/Multiman-S knockoff) with a bad power supply. The PSU is complicated and zener regulated. I've actually purchased NOS Soviet parts to rebuild it. But: I'd like to replace with a universal PSU and an IEC mains connector...

Opinions on de-essers in signal chain

Was reading a thread at gearspace (fka gearslutz) and opinions varied but one poster insisted first always. But, the manual for the Orban 536A says this: In general, the 536A should be the last processor in the chain before the recording device. Equalization and compression/limiting should be...

    Klark-Teknik KT-2A (2A-KT) -- level question

Thanks everyone. . It'll pass signal at -10dB. I do have an Aphex line level shifter I picked up at a computer surplus place of all things for a few dollars. I think I'll just go ahead and patch in Aphex.

XPOST Dumb KT-2A (or any +4dBu gear) level question

Thanks Dave. I have a line Thanks Dave I have an active line level adjuster (actually two of them....) but one is pin 3 hot... I have it wired up without that just yet and ran some signal through it. I'll give it a go both ways.

    Tascam 320 vs 520

@sweetbeats correct me if I'm wrong, but the M-520 is pin 3 hot on the XLRs. don't know about the 320. There's a polarity switch on the inputs which will take care of that. I've wired most of my DIY mics pin 3 hot. I believe the balanced outs are also pin 3 hot.

XPOST Dumb KT-2A (or any +4dBu gear) level question

Kinda dumb question here, but I believe the KT-2A is designed for "pro" level +4dBu in and out. Is there really a problem using it on "prosumer" -10dBm signal path, or should I bring the level up on the input and back down on the output.? I've had advice that it's fine either way, but would work...

I have the files on another computer. The schematic basically shows you how to do it. I should have an edited schematic that has the correct part labels for the PCB. I'll dig that up.

Owner's manual for DeltaLab Effectron III (ADM 1030)?

Thanks! I'd assume the repeat and control function the same way. The only difference between the II and the III is the programmability. Good to know how to get an infinite repeat from a footswitch.

Precision reels on eBay (SPAMISH post)

Please keep us posted. The specs look OK, it looks like you need to bias for Quantegy 499/GP9, RTM 468, but don't hit it as hard. I don't know if there's something different about the formula.
