Best all-around mic for 22 dollars?

Are you saying you had some stolen? Or are you saying that no sane person would willingly sell theirs? :)

    What Stand for SP B1?

I have one of the "big" On Stage stands mentioned above (cheaper at B&H in NYC: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/400082-REG/On_Stage_SMS7650_SM7650_Hex_Base_Microphone_Stand.html) I actually put 2 10-pound Olympic style weights on it when it's extended out to keep it from tipping if...

Help! Which mics work well with Windows Vista?

I was going to suggest a Schoeps CMC6/MK4 combo, but I suppose an SM57 would work too. :)

    Group Buy Interest?

My mistake - I was thinking these mics were coming from them. Perhaps other companies have since switched to other Chinese manufacturers since then as well. Or perhaps Alctron started a sister "company" with a different name. :)

All these mics sound the same...

Those tracks line up AWFULLY nice with each other, and they look identical. I didn't try subtracting one from another, but I have to ask - are those really different takes with different mics?

    Group Buy Interest?

I've been following this thread with more of a technical interest than anything else, since I don't currently have any ribbon mics. A question for those that know - if you install a ribbon in a mic (say for example at the factory) and then tension it, aren't the folds in the ribbon going to...

All-round condenser - which of these?

You can buy a CAD M179 for $140 (+ shipping) from a reputable U.S. dealer if you know where to look. I don't know if that helps in Euro-land though.

    11-1-07....CAD M177 for $59 - MF Stupid deal...

When weren't they? (My mistake - I forgot that at one time CAD did claim to make its mics in the U.S. - I don't think they are now.)

Modding a CAD GXL3000 Microphone (help needed) w/pix

Yeah, from the pictures that looks like a ONE layer board. The holes aren't plated through, so there must not be any internal layers. It would be pretty simple to extract a schematic.

    Recording classical music.

Yes! The best way to prove it can sound good is to have no PA system. A 90 piece orchestra will be able to make enough noise to hurt your ears in what you describe as a "small theater", so it just isn't needed.

    Behringer HD400 MICROHD Hum Destroyer

What exactly is your equipment, and how is it interconnected? Some more details will get you better answers - maybe the hum can be gotten rid of without buying more equipment.

Making Cables - Balanced vs Unbalanced

Sometimes grounding the center tap on an output transformer can be useful to reduce common-mode noise. Otherwise the winding and the differential line it is driving are floating with respect to ground and more susceptable to picking it up. If there is a transformer on the other end of the line...
