Just to add on, I recently starting doing work on a Lenovo with an i3 processor, and so far it has been able to handle up to about 20 tracks of audio which is pretty much my max (if I ever need more than that then it's indicative that I'm doing something stupid). It has done just fine and I run...
Pretty sure it's just a friendly competition, sans prizes. It's fun practice though, and there are some pretty wild noises on that site to use.

Oh in a commercial environment absolutely. They have a list of their licenses and it's your responsibility to check to see whether each track is creative commons or something a bit more careful. For the sake of the competition any and all can be used since it's not for profit.
Wonder how that...
Hey all, so in the spirit of mixing practice, figured I would share that the creative commons website freesound.org is having a little challenge involving downloading user submitted sound effects and crafting a musical track from it. deadline is May 31. Not sure how many will be submitting but...
Depends on what you're plugging into, what instrument is recorded, what sound you want, etc etc. etc. It's like yoga pants. They all do the trick in the right context. Except on dudes. Wonder what the hello kitty mic would sound like through a nice vintage clean usb port on a Windows 2000 pc....
Don't apologize. If you are serious about doing this the rest of your life then you are going to be in for a lot of networking and music playing, and by all means don't ever let anyone run the dream into the ground. I say give it a damn shot while you can take some risks. Eventually, just...
So I made the first serious financial investment into my studio setup with a new Antelope Zen Studio interface. I look forward to sharing about it here everytime I can.

So far I have set it up in my rack and recorded two tracks at most. Some things to...
^agreed on the mixing clinic
I personally feel like you have some fighting for the mid-low end of the spectrum. Not that it sounds bass heavy, just a little crowded. My suggestion would be to let the cello take the low end and pull the low off the guitar and vocals a a bit. More so the vocals...
I've been a member of this site for a few years (more inactive than active sadly), and have reached the point where I'd like to share my story. Recording prior to this year has always been primarily a hobby of mine that I fell in love with. A little background: I went to college and graduated in...
Honestly it seems the limiting and little bit of mastering steps you did on it were fine, but you may not be liking it because, in trying to compare it to Skrillex's track, your kick sound just doesn't stand out much at all. If you really want to make it sound like the other and have that stand...
Yeah reaper can really get the (basic) job done. Not sure if you're realizing this too, but it seems like the mastering step may also need a good bit of eq work. In reaper, a lot of my tracks tend to be mid freq heavy, so I also boost a bit of the high frequencies pre compression
If it helps, here are my thoughts. Firstly, understand as of now I do all my mixing and 'mastering' through Reaper using very basic plugins and EQing. Also, below is what I have learned is working the best for me SO FAR. I am truly an amateur at mastering techniques.
I first record all my...
