    Sound Effects Recording

While I'm at it - do you know anyone who records sound effects? Is that called "foley"? What are some ways they get those great sounds of explosions and big water splashes?

    Portable (handheld) Digital Recorder

Does anyone know of such a device? I heard that Sony made one (only available in Japan), and that it sounded great for recording outdoor sounds for sound effects and such. Much easier than lugging your computer tower out to the train tracks to mike up a locomotive! Anybody ever heard of this?

    Digi 001 - Pre & Post roll

You said, "Pro Tools starts playing from the beginning of the song instead of from the middle (the section I just highlighted)." Try this - one of the pulldown menus has "Preferences". Make sure you have checked the box that says "Playback follows insertion" (or something like that). Also...

Take the "boom" outta my bass!

the bass "boom" is gone, but so isda TONE and PUNCH OK, friends. Remember my "boomy" bass tracks? I compressed them and they sounded "eh", so I compressed 'em more and they were "pumping" (bad). So I attempted Beathoven's and Chad's advice about e.q. I cut and "Q'd" and swept and found some...

Take the "boom" outta my bass!

I just mixed (and had mastered) some bass guitar tracks (which started out boomy and loud) and guess what? The tracks STAYED boomy and loud! I thought the mastering and compression, etc. would even it all out (don't get me wrong; the mastering did a WORLD of good to the recording), but I need...

Please help me compress, effect, and eq

I'm editing and mixing a Christian pop music CD for the kids at my church. Of course, I'd like energy (the performances and tones are good), PUNCH, full low end, and pleasing highs, but the plug-ins with my Digi 001/Pro Tools LE are overwhelming me. So many choices... I've heard I should...

    Deadening sound for miking

Thanks Darrin! I will give that "long cables to get the computer out" - thing a shot!

Using a POD for bass tone

I've got a stock $700 Yamaha bass that sounds decent through my POD, but I'd like more punch and clarity. I am an advanced-intermediate player (I know that MUCH of great tone comes out of the player!), but I'm wondering about compressing/limiting/normalizing/e.q.ing bass tracks to give more...

    Deadening sound for miking

My computer (fan noise) and live mike are in the same room. Can somebody "draw" me a diagram of how to dampen the room noise and create a "booth" for miking up vocals, percussion, and acoustic guitars? Thanks in advance!
