    Headphone distortion on digital piano

I recently bought a Roland FP-3 digital piano which has two headphone sockets at the front. When listening to the output through headphones, the sound is fine for the first couple of minutes. However, the sound begins to have a crackling interference, soon becoming full-on distortion. This...

Recordings with little or no compression

Although I appreciate the usefulness of compression, I'm wondering what examples there are of tracks which exemplify little or no compression being used and which you nevertheless consider pleasing to your ears. They could be stripped down acoustic songs or even big band arrangements. I'm...

Resources and methods for improving on guitar

I might give TrueFire a go. It looks like it has a good range of videos.

Resources and methods for improving on guitar

Good advice. I particularly relate to the first paragraph. I definitely don't play enough but that's largely due to being uninspired and needing a better practice regime, set of lessons etc. I play with a jazz-blues band but we don't play or gig enough at the moment. My usual genre of playing...

Resources and methods for improving on guitar

I've been playing guitar for 25 years and while I've got to a good level, I'm at the stage where I want to push myself further...but I'm not sure about the best way to go about it. I'm entirely self taught, having started off with a few books but mainly learnt by ear, picking out songs. I...

DAW/soundcard won't allow me to record at 96k

The pics didn't look like that when I posted them! Sorry!

DAW/soundcard won't allow me to record at 96k

Thanks for that. However, I don't see anywhere in the Control Panel where I can select the sample rate of the sound card. Here's a snapshot of it... And here is a snapshot of how far I've get when trying to adjust the laptop's sound card... I get this message when I open a new project in...

DAW/soundcard won't allow me to record at 96k

Software/soundcard won't allow me to record at 96k I have installed my recording software (Cubase) on a separate DAW. When trying to set the sample rate in a new project, I notice that it only gives me 48k as an option. This is not sufficient as not only do I want to record new projects at...

External compressor with PC - how to connect?

I can see how using compression during recording can help avoid clipping, and/or if you want to commit to the 'effect' from the start. However, it's how to use it during mixdown in my set-up which I'm still curious about (i.e. where to place the hardware in a chain).

External compressor with PC - how to connect?

My recording set up is (generally): Instruments/vocals >>> Mackie mixer >>> 4-track tape recorder >>> PC The reason for the 4-track in the chain is so that I can record two tracks simultaneously, pan them hard L and R and record them to two separate tracks within Cubase. I agree with a...

Frontline X-8 mixer - any good?

Could I use it to record more than two inputs at once onto two channels on my DAW (I have a very basic soundcard on my PC)?

Frontline X-8 mixer - any good?

I'm about to acquire one of these for free. Is it any good? What can it be best used for?

Unable to hear line-in 'live' while recording

Something like that should be the way to fix it. However, I've unmuted just about everything in all the devices but still nothing is heard until I playback the recording. I'm using Vista if that makes any difference.

Unable to hear line-in 'live' while recording

I still feel the problem is with the laptop settings. On another PC I use to record on, I always hear the input totally fine - before and during any recording. This holds true whether I run my instrument/mic through a mixer first or - say -a mic straight into the PC line-in. It's still audible...
