"When I used the 488, I ran the deck at its fastest speed all of the time -- made for much better fidelity."
I've never thought of that, a true example of why this site ROCKS!

YO Hornet "The Buzzin Bougah!
yup, I've looked at stand alone boxes (788 and BR8) but I dont think its my thing. (figured, I got a Computer=gonna use it) but I DO like that yamaha!

VERY good point about variable speeds...
Hey folks, Im lookin for some suggestions.
I've been using a tascam 488MKII and I just bought a new computer...... but its an HP pavilion. Figuring that I should dip my foot into digital, I was gonna get an interface, software, etc. and set up a digital workstation.
Well, I'm really not to...
Thanks Stealth,
I've heard many negatives regarding Hp and recording. It figures that I found this out AFTER I bought the machine. Again, it was a too good of a deal so I'll live with it.
So are you using the delta/omni/sonar setup in your studio (or have you ever used that combo?)
If so...
OK, so I understand the Hp Pavilion computers don't support digi 001. Well, I just bought an Hp because the offer was too good to pass up.

Who the hell is dick dasterdly???
Sounds like a damn porn star! Anyway, I have a 488MKII (close to your 424) and I use a DMP3 preamp with it. It cleans things up nicely, has two channels, and won't burn a whole in your pocket-just watch on Ebay or look for a good deal locally...
The 424 MKII is a 4-track version of the 488MKII so manual will help with all of the trickey functions. I've never used the MKIII but if you check it out you may find something helpful in the manual.
your best bet is to got to the Tascam website and click on products and then click on manuals. Download the one for the 424MKII, they're very similar to operate. AND ITS FREE!:D
yo Muttley!
What are the chances that you might have a 488 MKII manual lying around that I could snatch a copy of. :D (with envelope and copying charges of course.
