Can i use my guitar compressor pedal to mix my music?its an ibanez.

i went to a store this week and i asked if they had tascam fourtracks and they told me that the factory stop producting because they are making new models(?!).so the only choise that i have is to buy a fostex x-34.i wanted a tascam 414-mk2.is the fostex good compairing to tascam 414?

Can u please help a newbie to remix his own demo?its a cd,and the console im going to work on is a mackie 8-track.Or if it is to much for, u tell me some links or sites that can guide me.thanx.
