EDIT: "Ever wonder why an acoustic guitar with a piezo saddle pickup doesn't hum?"
Ooo! I know sir! I know! It's because piezo devices are essentially capacitors and thus do not respond to electro-MAGNETIC radiation, transformers and stuff. They are sensitive to electro-STATIC fields but these...
Hi there and welcome. I'm Dave can I call you Bob? I am no musician but a retired electronics tech. My son lives in France and IS a very good muso, mainly guitar and bass but pretty good on keys, clarinet, brass. Top bllks on music theory and reads well.
New computer? Pretty easy these...
I found a mobile phone within 1m of an all valve 30W combo caused "twittering" but at a level way below the actual guitar sound.
Triodes have a natural RFI filter in their grid circuit formed by the grid stopper resistor* and the input capacitance of the valve.
Bipolar transistors, ICs and...
Good call and Jim also said "....can't have enough patch leads" A wise observation and if his pile grows it might be worth investing in a multi-way cable tester? Far easier to use than a meter and can test for intermittent connections...you wiggle it a bit.
"Funny" story. I have an...
Rare to find instrument, high Z inputs on older mixers and I would bet they use a FET to get that high input impedance. FETs have an even wider bandwidth than bipolar transistors. You can use the humble AUDIO 2n3819 as a band ll FM radio preamp!
Dave.
Hmm, it is not reckoned to be good practice to plug guitars into mixer line inputs because of the very low (for guitar) input impedance, not that I think it matters much for bass? I can only surmise that because of the relatively high source impedance of the bass, 10k min I would say, that is...
Rich, what is the mixer and was the bass TRULY direct? No pedal first? I ask because RFI usually gets in a first stage transistor or IC. If the mixer is not picking up AM from any other source I suspect there is some sort of active device twixt bass and mixer.
It could, as you say simply be...
Jim...Mate! Please don't let Ascat's little outburst put you off the forum. People often post in a bit of a strop when in fact they REALLY don't mean to be rude...done it meself.
This forum (and two others I infest*) are veritable MODELS of good manners and calm advice 99.9% of the time but we...
Fair enough Rich. I guess this grumpy old bugger was just put off by their over-busy website. I don't WANT to setup a friggin' account with every sodding company I seek information from! I get enough 'king spam as it is!
My hard earned will go to sites which are "quiet", calm, easy to navigate...
Hmm? My son plays bass in a band in France and they have two mixers. A cheap jobby that I sent him, it works but I was very disappointed with it. They have a bigger analogue mixer but I think they are running tight on inputs. I might get a flow 8 and they can 'slave' it to the biggy.
Well...
I am not in the least surprised that it worked and had I spotted your post earlier this is just what I would have suggested. FYI the noise is called "ground loop zipper noise" and is usually caused by a laptop being earthed via its charger (did you try it on battery?) and connected to a grounded...
"
You could probably make one in 2 minutes from a pair of broken headphones" Possibly not S because a lot of headphone cables use 'tinsel wire' which is Aluminium and impossible to solder.
But, FFS! A stereo 3.5mm plug and two TS or TRS 1/4" plugs? There are not that many permutations and...
Checked their website yesterday..."splashy" super busy site and not straightforward to navigate so I blew them out. Proper, "professional" suppliers make their websites clear and simple and quick to know.
I also suspect they claim their cables "sound better" than the competition which is Russ...
I was interested so I looked up its specifications and was rather disappointed?
Max output +14dBu, a good 8-10dB below almost all other mixers including Behringer's own. The mic noise EIN is given as -117dB weighted! Most mixers/AI do better than -127dB.
I guess if you have monitors or PA...
Yes, as far as I understand things, that^ is what OP needs. A stereo splitter. Personally I would chop the single TRS plug off and replace it with a 3.5mm TRS plug? The weight of adapter, cable and plug can bugger a TRS socket....feeble fekkers at the best of times! But I hope his eyes are a LOT...
