    Panel absorber construction question

One final question... Does a bass trap have to be attached to the wall for most effective results or can it free stand just in front of the wall ie just sitting on the floor a couple of inches away from the wall?

    Panel absorber construction question

Actually..thinking about it even more... I was thinking about gluing the panel to the front with No Nails (don't know what it's called in Oz or US!) which is a stretchy , flexible rubbery glue. Barefoot's theory would suggest that this would be better than nails or screws, yes? As the ply will...

    Panel absorber construction question

Hmm fascinating stuff If you used the plastic film approach, though, wouldn't the film/rubber stretch'flex rather than the ply it's attached too? ie wouldn't the ply sort of stay flat and all the movement graduate to the film? I suppose, thinking about it, this is why you talk about a piston...

    Panel absorber construction question

Thanks John I'm building the trap as per your original thoughts, John. I had the room checked out and it needs to be around 100 hz. Thanks for your input again.

    Panel absorber construction question

Thanks So the actual attachment technique isn't too critical, though? So you could glue and nail or screw as long as the materials can cope and it's airtight. I was concerned about whether the attaching technique was critical to the ply's ability to flex in the appropriate manner. Thanks for that.

    Panel absorber construction question

When you're making a panel absorber, how critical is the way you attach the ply to the box?...I want to make some bass absorbers using 1/8" ply over an 8" gap. Can I just glue the ply to the front of the box directly onto the mdf (probably 3/4" or 1") for a flush edge? Or do I need to have the...

    SheetBlok Professional Sound Barrier question.

BBC and roofing felt Yes, it's true about roofing felt. Apparently the BBC here in London used to use it for building bass traps. It's the heavy, tar-like stuff that you use to roof your shed with!

    Monitor choice...any views?

So it's NS10s are dead long live the Dynaudios by the sound of it! I guess when it comes down to it, any of these are going to be a BIG step up from my Tannoy Reveals and Arcam amp?

    Monitor choice...any views?

Thanks, Chaps!(or chappesses) Barefoot's views, as a speaker designer, are particularly interesting. People keep telling me to get 1030s, they're kind of a new industry standard...my essential criteria for the choice is Mixes that Travel. I'm sorting out my room and I want a pair of Monitors...

    Monitor choice...any views?

mackie 624s (the new, littler ones), Genelec 1030s, or Dynaudio BM6As. These are all around the same price in the UK. Anyone care to share their preferences/experiences? Thanks in advance.

Oh dear Yes, I'm Mr Frown as well. Ah well, at least I've got my health.

    the perfect room

I've got a vaulted ceiling..but Which is better: to have your monitors in line with the apex, or set up across the angles? If you see what I mean? ie sloping walls on either side of monitors or sloping walls in front and behind?

    Does Auralex work?

I'm well aware of all the learning on John's site and here, there and everywhere....that's why I asked the question really! I'm not debating the cost, I'm wondering about the actual effectiveness of an Auralex type solution. Clearly, if money is no object, a few minutes sticking foam corners in...

    Does Auralex work?

Read the big plug for an Auralex kit on the ProRec site; the chap was very impressed but can bits of foam in the corners really do a proper job on bass frequencies?
