    Bass amp simulator question

The samples of the Tech 21 sound good, but I wonder how versatile the eq's are...can you beef up the mids? I read a review on mf, and one person said it was only good for a scooped mid tone, could be that he didn't know how to use it properly...I will have to go to the local shop and try one...

    Recording Vocals

That's what I was refering too. I guess I should have quoted in my earlier post. I agree, a better solution would be to record a second vocal track, and then pan each track...but then that's just me speaking with limited experience.

    Mxl 990

Hmm, I will look into that....It does have a rubber gasket between the basket and body...

    MXL 990/991 Package

I dont think its the mixer or cables, as they are fine with other mics...just not the 990...I am thinking it may have gotten damaged in transit...what a bummer.

    Recording Vocals

By cloning a track in software and offsetting a little bit, you wouldnt be doubling the volume...this would only be the case if you just cloned the track with no offset.

    Mxl 990

For what it's worth, I get an awful low frequency hum. It's almost like a bad pcb or loose ground, I checked the connections on the jack but they look fine... You get what you pay for I guess. I think I will try the mods they have out for it with a new capsule, incase it's just gotten banged...

    Bleeding sound.

Hi, I'm pretty new at the whole home studio thing. I've got my mixer (Tapco MIX.120) running through my Audiophile 192 in my pc which i use ableton live lite7 to record. I am using an MXL 990 & 991 for condensors and generally record electric through my Vox ToneLab direct into a stereo track...

    Psych Ward - Greg_L original

That's a lasting tune! The production is ace too. My only comment is another verse on the dynamic of a character in the psych ward would be cool.

Define "phase"? Or is it polarity?

Yeah that does make sense, I guess the best way to get noise out of a mix is to ensure it isn't there in the first place! I think my problem is my mic is setup next to my pc, and i am picking up fan noise or something. I am limited atm to recording in my living room of my 1 bedroom apt. What...

Define "phase"? Or is it polarity?

So If I wanted to cancel out a 60 cycles hum I could say make a recording, of just the hum, invert it and record my track with the hum burried in the signal, and the two should in theory negate and I will be left with just the audio signal (+ rounding errors).

    MXL 990/991 Package

Thanks! I will look into modding the mics. I have re-wired guitars and built various electronics kits, so it may not be too much of a stretch for me to mod these puppies. I will work on fixing the hum first. Thanks for the input!

    MXL 990/991 Package

I recently purchased the MXL 990/991 package. I find that anything I record with the 990 has a low hum in the background. I try the LCF on my Tapco Mix.120 and it still doesnt remove it. Is there a reason the hum doesn't appear on the 991? I am wondering if large capsule microphones are...
