Older song, rerecorded with what I know now. Love your feedback

Overall it sounded excellent, especially the drums and bass. The lead guitar sounded very nice as well, but I've got $5 that says the intonation's off--certain notes sounded just a little out with everything else. I wasn't the biggest fan of when you brought in the other distorted guitars, they...

    Circuit Bent Song

I really dug that--I love how clear and dynamic it sounds. It seems to clip a little in the end, 2:24-27 or there bouts, but I'd have to say that's my only complaint. Kudos to you and Dona.

    What is my next step/Purchase????

I'd absolutely agree--I'm unsure how long "just starting" means, but even if you've had that equipment 6 months you'll still need more time to really get a feel and understand it and be able to think in terms of "I'm Mr. 1960A cab!" and then figure out what combination of mic and pre will help...

Best Sounding Album of all time

Captain Beefheart - Ice Cream for Crow The overall sound of the album is just so dark, but so so clear--it's absolutely amazing. And it only took 17 years and about 8 albums before someone figured out how to capture all of Van Vliets 4 1/2 octaves dynamically with no clipping and get them to...

How do you control the volume of your Active studio monitors?

Master Fader on my MOTU 828mkII

    new to Cakewalk....

You /were/ looking at a Behringer. Now you are going to look at something that's not a waste of money--which is almost anything that isn't a Behringer. Even the Behry stuff that sounds good at first (of which does exist) doesn't sound good for long. I worked at Sam Ash, and the return rate on...

    Syncing Problems

When you monitor, what outputs are you using? Make sure you've disabled your onboard soundcard's drivers in Sonar, that may help. What rate and depth are you recording at?

    What UPS for the studio?

If you want to be on the cheap side, put a conditioner before the UPS--it'll correct enough that the UPS will only turn on when really needed. Furthermore, what're you worried about line noise for? You will NOT be connecting your outboard equipment to this--ONLY your PC and monitors, and...

    What studio monitors?

No matter what, you should definately put up at least another $100--I was going to get the wharfedale's myself (diamond pro 8's, I believe), but I had a difficult time buying monitors I hadn't heard myself, even though I never heard a bad thing about them. Working with that budget, though, check...

    New Behringer Gear Released!!!

My first post in many months, and I'd hate the first to be a sorta 'in your face' type deal even though it's not really meant that way, but This isn't purgatory, this is Behringer. Actually, funny I should come across this so quickly--one of my favorite quotes ever about...

Finished song please give some feedback

Love the vox--the song almost sounds like Echo and the Bunnymen played a show at Chi-Chi's; definately pretty sweet. My only mix gripe would be I don't like how shrill the guitar is, especially in the beginning. Try a different DI box next time, or if that was the lead, try a different mic...

    various mic questions...

I could've sworn I've heard "transformless output" a bunch of times from various condensor makers--if there were a transformer to match impedance, it would be at the output as opposed to directly after the capsule? Are there any other methods besides tube and fets?

    various mic questions...

They're using transistors instead of a transformer to match impedance. FET = field effect transistor. It's a powered mic as well, I'd imagine?

Presonus Pre & Comp-->Any Good or Not?

I've been using the DIGITube for a while now--it was my first pre, and I can make her sound damned good. She's no avalon, but she's got 48khz SPDIF on her, and it really makes the difference. Definately a good choice if they're offering that model as well.

    What is a Baritone Guitar?

Alice in Chains, Soundgarden--a lot of the acoustic-driven hard rock of the early 90's was either baritone on a baritone guitar, or on a regular guitar tuned to either drop-d or drop-c#. Used right, they're definately great things to have on hand. A good friend of mine has a barry, and it's a...
