brand new to recording, but not to songwriteing

Personally I've had nothing but good advice from Southside in the past, and it's all held up against further independent research. So all this phoney and bullshit detector stuff is just nonsense.

Do you HAVE to record drums first?

Agree with everything there, was a one man band for a long time and know about mr click, just happy to leave him alone now!

Do you HAVE to record drums first?

I agree it might kick ass more, but a live band playing well without a click can sometimes be magical. That's what i'm looking for.

Do you HAVE to record drums first?

I was clearly playing devil's advocate as up until recently i've always built my studio songs around a click but recently i just wanted to record the whole band playing live and was far happier with the overall feel. We kept the drum and bass and redubbed everything else. To me this was a good...

Do you HAVE to record drums first?

click-track *shudder* even if you can push and pull your playing with the click and make it sound great and fool everybody into thinking it's a natural rhythm... wouldn't the fact that *you* know your song has been carried by a soulless, monotonous, unyielding, unhuman, unfeeling click running...

    Mastering Limiters?

I so knew I was going to be exposed as an audio womble with that last post of mine, I deserved it I know :) I guess what I mean is... I can switch between the radio and commercial CDs in my car without feeling the need to adjust the volume, but if I put in one of my CDs and feel I have to turn...

does any one have more trouble mixing their own band?

Tell me about it, everyone wants it done but ultimately it's you that's got to do all the work (after you've probably paid for all the latest gear, while the guitarist is still using a dodgy guitar cable used by their dad in 1973). What starts off as a labour of love can become a lot worse than...

    Mastering Limiters?

I tend to make my mixes roughly comparable in volume with the average radio station... there's nowt worse than someone whose finished listening to your CD in the car, clicking stop when suddenly everyone is deafened when the radio kicks in! with the driver desperately searching for the volume...

does any one have more trouble mixing their own band?

I'm in the same situation, and for what it's worth I've taken the opposite approach and only mix when everyone is in the room, they all add their suggestions and I only mixdown when everyone is happy. I no longer waste my time spending all night / week mixing a song only for the bass player to...

Splitting a live mutitrack session into separate song projects

Cool, I just selected the start and end of a song, performed a global copy, selected and deleted all tracks and pasted back the song, saving as a new project. All working fine... why haven't I done this before  must have been a reason... can't think of one just now though...

Splitting a live mutitrack session into separate song projects

Just been searching for a macro to do this as well, and found Meap! It's not free though... funny how I don't mind giving money to the big guys but not to the little guys http://www.pendlebury.biz/index.php?categoryid=1

Splitting a live mutitrack session into separate song projects

Thanks Glen, it's just the slow speed of my machine... Exporting Song1-Track1.. 1%...................................................................... 2%......................... But if that's the way you guys do it then that's cool, new machine required ;)

Splitting a live mutitrack session into separate song projects

Just wondering how people go about this... after recording a live set I usually end up with 16 tracks about a couple of gigabytes each in size. I then want to work on each song in the session as a separate project. I usually set the start and end markers for the first song and for each of the...

    ADAT HD24 ---> Awesome!

I'd suggest getting the Behringer RX1602 line mixer to go with the HD24, purely to monitor all the line outputs. It's rack mountable and only 1 unit high, and obviously cheap as. It also has a handy send for adding vocal FX. It's worked fine for me but the quality doesn't matter because it's not...

    why bother with 24 bit

I'm personally very grateful for Glen shining a clear light on this area, I can now happily sample at 44.1 knowing I'm recording perfectly all the frequencies I can physically hear (dependent on mics, preamps and convertors etc...) Previously I would be thinking double the sample rate and double...
