what bands are using V-Drum, and what band are real drum!?

v-drums I've seen a couple of live Crimson shows and his e-drum setup sounded pretty good....a few pads, acoustics with triggers, a Roland td-10 module, and a Roland Handsonic....probably a lot more but thats all I could see.. the only way to get V-drums to work in any type of situation is...

SM58 as good for instruments as SM57?

I once set up a single 58 in my drum room, played around with the placement, hit record and recorded a track... I later added software compression and FX with some cool Waves Renn plugins....pretty interesting results...

next step up from Mackie vlz pre's for drums and vocals

Mackie vlz mixer and pre's have served me well....but what's the next step up? need 4 channels, could get by with 3 for now, drum kit and vocal recording.....basically looking to record some decent quality demos...I just don't want to be stuck with some piece of junk that will be a doorstop in...

    if you couldn't afford a SM57...

Re: Re: Re: Re: Re: if you couldn't afford a SM57... Unfortunately, #2 was never available to me....I never got a chance to buckle my seat belt....they ran my behind out of there, threatened to ticket my unsafe vehicle, and told me to come back with a decent car...I came back with my Dad's...

    if you couldn't afford a SM57...

Re: Re: Re: if you couldn't afford a SM57... If interesting sounds are the goal, then just get a 1982 Panasonic mono cassette recorder with a built-in mic for .50 from a garage sale and record your dog barking...or water running...or a crazy person rambling...(come to my house and I'll help...

    if you couldn't afford a SM57...

I'm confused...isn't it worth it to spend about $30 or so more for something in order to get better quality..... That being said, I have used the Sennheiser e603 knockoff, that Radio Shack 33-3302 (that some claim is the same exact mic ......) I paid $15 dollars for it when they cleared them...

who can hear the diff between the mxl990 and the mxl603?

I've HAD both mics, but have gotten rid of them both..... the 603 was useless for vocals....as was the 990 I have an sm58 that gives me better vocals.... the only thing I used the 990 for was a drum overhead...the 603 I had seemed like it picked up everything around it more than it did the...

Best mics for my drummers kit on a budget of $300.00

Not a bad little trick, except in my case I get mixed results because: I'm recording into a Mackie mixer, and from there I'm going into my DAW with a 2 track master because my audio interface is only 2 in and 2 out.... When compressing a 2 track master that much, it seems I lose a lot of the...

Best mics for my drummers kit on a budget of $300.00

Just curious, are you saying you dup the Oh's, kick and snare and bus them to a software compressor?? and what compressor?? what's your version of 'compressing the living shit out of them?"

    Bass drum head question

I wouldn't mess with cutting a hole in the head..... in the studio, I leave the front head on without a hole and I get a really good kick sound with the mic about a foot or so in front.... live though its a different story.....I've needed to somewhat bury the mic through the hole in the...

Tom Mic setup do I need to invest in a mic for Floor tom only.

I'm using the Mk012's as my oH's and it sounds pretty good except the toms sound a little thin.....my mic placement is similiar to the 3 mic technique documented here by recorderman...... I'd be interested to know what type of mic placement you've used with the Mk319's to get the better total...
