I'll condense my questions down for clarity: Does the windows mixer gain for "mic in" control anything pre ADC? If a USB mic doesn't have a volume knob, does it have a preset preamp gain, or is the preamp gain controlled with the windows mixer?

There is not a kick drum, and the bass is a square wave, of course it's going to be thin. Is it thin outside of those 2 considerations?

There's no kick, just a snare and one cymbal. There's a floor tom used on some other songs i think, but not this song. 2 piece kit for this one.

Sweet! I don't think simply switching the two out is going to work though, you'll probably have to do some remixing, but I think anything sounds better than GPO.
