Looking to record audio for educational videos

A Shure sm57 is probably you're best bet, but you need an interface. You might have to increase your budget a bit to get everything you need. Don't use a usb mic. Read this thread https://homerecording.com/bbs/showthread.php?t=307238

    Recording Bass Guitar

Ok, for one, yes I am using an interface. I think I might know what my problem is... when I record bass I just record the bass guitar itself directly and just amplify that with the pres on my mixer/in the DAW, no amp sims or vsts (I do compress it though). For me the sound has too much of the...

    Recording Bass Guitar

Right now I only record bass DI as I have no bass amp, and Im not really thrilled with the sounds Im getting (although I am using a cheap ass bass). Do you think getting a bass amp and micing it would produce better results? Would a sm57 work good for this? are there 'prefered' mics for...

Where do all of my picks go?!

Losing a pick into the body of an acoustic is annoying. When I lost a pick into the soundhole of my telecaster thinline I thought I'd never get it out.

    Selective Feedback?

This doesnt answer you're question but... I find with my hollowbody that certain notes make the guitar make a kind of "woof" sound, like its hitting the natural resonant frequency of the guitar or something. Maybe this is a similar effect? Ive also gotten this phenomenon with a really old...

    Finally a Hollowbody!!!!!

I got an itch for a hollowbody electric a few months ago and went with a Hagstrom Viking. Its looks almost identical to the De Armond except its a double cutaway. I think it was around $600. http://www.google.ca/images?hl=en&q=hagstrom%20viking&um=1&ie=UTF-8&source=og&sa=N&tab=wi

Where do all of my picks go?!

Losing picks had long been a mysterious, frustrating plague for me. I can be playing, put my pick down for a second to take a sip of beer, and lose it instantly, being nowhere to be found within a 5 meter radius of myself. I'll buy 12 picks, lose all but 2 of them in about a week, search my...

Figuring out the best way to plug in my Yamaha HS50Ms

You most likely need to buy a mixer, or some sort of usb audio interface with monitor outputs. Im not a mac guy, but they probably dont have awesomely good soundcards. The way I do it is I have a mixer which I connect with a usb interface to my computer (via the cd/tape inputs/outputs) so i...

    Electric Vs. Acoustic drums.

I think that both electronic and acoustic kits can run the same price tags. Although you can get REALLY cheap acoustic sets, while the cheapest e-kit I've seen is about $500. An acoustic kit with triggers would surely be more expensive than an eletronic only kit wouldn't it?

Buying Guitars Mail-order or On-line, do ya?

I bought 2 of my guitars off e-bay; a Les Paul Studio (used) and Telecaster Thinline reissue (new). Had no problems with them, they're awesome guitars.

how does everyone pay for there studio?

I paid for all my stuff (5 guitars, bass, amp, pedals etc., keyboard, mixer, monitors, microphones, electronic drum kit and computer) working minimum wage at a coffee shop (and I pay rent etc. aswell, I dont live with my parents).

    Article: Guitar Distortion. Enjoy.

The natural distortion from overdriving a tube amp is pretty damn sweet. But, that being said, I think there is alot to gain from pedals aswell. You can't really get a 'fuzz' sound like you'd get from a Big Muff or Fuzz Factory by diming your amp. Here's a question: Do you really need to...

Why is it impossible to find 1/4 stereo cables?

Just buy 2 guitar patch cords. Or are you trying to convert 2 1/4" outputs into some kind of single input? On a side note, anyone know if it makes a difference whether you connect your monitors to your mixer with guitar cables or RCA cables?

worth spending more than $1000 on a guitar?

I think there is definite distinction between a guitar's 'sound' and its 'feel'. Feel has to do with the shape of the neck, the frets, scale length, body shape, appearance, weight etc. aside from the sound. Sound is basically just the sound that is output by the pickups, still dependent...
