Just getting back to this. If firewire (and probably USB so I am not sure how my current M-Audio card will work) do not carry clock signals, how do I sync my sequencer software to the clock source? For example, in Cubase's device setup menu for a project, you can specify the clock source to be...
Thanks for the info. Does firewire carry wordclock also? If so I could just bypass the old Audiophile altogether (if I get the RME; the firewire card for the Rosetta is pretty steep).
Thanks
I am going to be purchasing a new AD/DA with word-clock in the near future, probably either Apogee Rosetta 200 or RME Fireface 400. Both of these units have word-clock I/O for syncing other devices.
If I want to use the interface as the clock source for my music software can I just run the...
I have a friend that uses an Apogee Rosetta interface and runs it through his M-Audio Delta 1010 using the word clock for his home studio. He says this is just about as good as it gets for home recording. Therefore, his recording interface group is well over $2000. I know you can spend more...
Input gain is 7dB, master is at 0 dB, preamp output is at 0dB, the 10dB pad on the mic is off, and the recorded track peaks around -3dB. It's not just the volume though. Recordings I have made with a crappier pre and mic with no room treatment sound more alive eventhough more noisy.
I bought an ART mic pre-amp and an M-Audio Solaris a few months back and also constructed several baffles out of Auralex mineral fiber. I have my phantom power turned on, an additional 20 dB boost and the preamp set to +7 dB and still my acoustic guitar recordings are extremely quiet. Are my...
Sorry. I did not realize there was a building forum. I read many posts about mic booths in this forum so I thought it would get replies. I'll post it in the appropriate place.
Thanks.
Anyone worked with Auralex Mineral Fiber? I was thinking of buying some because it seems the best mix of price, effectiveness and ease of purchase. I hope to construct a small partition to record vocals in and cut down on wall reflections. I have read, I believe on the Auralex site, that it can...

I figure to mount the 703 you need to perhaps glue it to something sturdy and non-reflective like wood. Then the wood could be mounted to a post. But what glue to use? Do I need to worry about the reflectivity of the dried glue?
I have only used a dynamic mic to record electric guitar, and usually you want the amplifier to be extremely loud. Yet I have read of people using condensor mics to record electric guitars. Is there danger of damaging the mic? Are amplifier levels supposed to be lower for condensor mic...
How safe is it to use fiberglass insulation (i.e. the 703) for building a makeshift mic booth? This is the same stuff you use in your attic and you are supposed to where a mask, gloves, and long clothes when going near it. Am I wrong?
