    Buzzing and Humming, power issue?

(Hey, not sure if this is the right thread, i figured studio building is the closest to my problem.) I just moved into a new house, and I set up my home studio in the basement. While recording bass, I was having a serious buzzing problem. It was almost as loud as my bass signal... I thought...

    External Input for Massive Synth?

In Logic, the ES1 Synthesizer allows an external input so the synth filters and parameters could be applied to non-synthesized audio. EX) putting a cutoff/resonator or LFO/modulation on a drum Is there a way to route external audio through the Massive parameters? Thanks for any help. Alec

    Recording Levels

The higher the level the more bits you are using. That means you have more audio information and a bigger dynamic range. In this mindset, you wanna get those peaks around 0. But at the same time, all your tracks could be at -30 and you could just crank the master... you get less dynamic range...

    USB AD Converter with Preamps

I've heard good things about motu... I'll scope it out. As far as room treatment, to a certain extent, putting up foam and shit in a room is just going to deaden the high frequencies... i was considering building some diffusers out of wood, kinda like this: Do-it-Yourself Acoustical Treatment...

    USB AD Converter with Preamps

The Tascam? I actually own a Tascam US1800--as far as i can tell, it works well but sounds slightly flat. I've gotten many almost-great recordings with it... maybe i just need a better room. I use my Apogee Duet when I can cause the preamps are much sexier. So now, two questions: 1) Per the...

    USB AD Converter with Preamps

These units make home recording soooo easy, especially when on a budget. Many of these interfaces are cheap and shitty, but i know there are some good ones. Ideally, I'd like: USB Interface 8 Inputs AD Conversion Preamps Phantom Power Any recommendations?

    Vocal mic shootout

Post it with music It's impossible to tell without the accompanying instruments. You should also do the test multiple times at different distances. Tracking isn't about making each instrument sound good on its own, its about making the ensemble sound good together. a shitty sounding piano...

    Recording Drums/Side Chaining

Usually if your toms are resonating it's because your drums aren't tuned well. It is most likely due to phase issues, tuning problems between top and bottom heads, or standing waves in your room that are causing more vibrations than usual. For instance, maybe your snare's tuning causes a...

Rhyme Genie & TuneSmith vs MasterWriter

Ugh... this thread makes me sad. I mean, use this software if you'd like... but theres something to be said for being a master of language. this kinda takes the fun out of it. have you read 1984? would you buy a lyric writing machine if they had one? There are websites that allow you to search...

    Need stronger kick drum?

Having trouble getting your kick to stand out in the mix? Try moving the kick track just a hair earlier than your other tracks. you shouldn't be able to hear the timing difference, but since there will be less frequency energy occurring at the time of the kick, the kick will have a greater...

So which instrument do you record first?

I record drums first because it takes the most mikes and set up. A guitar track can be recorded here there or anywhere, and in short amounts of time. You can't ever record drums quickly unless you have mikes that you leave up. So, if the drummer needs it, i provide a reference guitar or bass...

    High Frequency Vocal Issue

Here is the other thing: if you have been listening to this song over and over again trying to mix it, it WILL cause stress on your ears. Come back to the mix 2-3 days later after NOT LISTENING to the song and see what it sounds like. The little hairs in your ears that detect frequencies...

    High Frequency Vocal Issue

Throw an EQ on your channel strip and hit the "analyze" button or something so you can see the frequencies that are occurring. At the parts where it hurts your ears, look at which frequencies are peaking, and automate them just 2-3 dB down. That should solve some of your problems. Another...

    Shure SM58 commentary

actually, in my experience the sm58 eliminates the most pop when your mouth is up against the screen. Its like the air doesn't have time to make a big impact, or it gets reflected right off. If you bring your mouth back even an inch or so, you get pops. So put it right against your mouth. if...

Reggae Rock Track "Horizon" by Burning Loud

Hey, this track was recorded in a bedroom and it still came out nicely. Let me know what you guys think. It was intended to be a demo, so there are little rough bits here and there. The band is called "Burning Loud" and we're from Chico CA.
