I've narrowed the choice down to these 2 ( I've already eleminated the Steinberg Houston).
Can anyone give me an opinion on either the Mackie Control surface or the Tascam FW1884?

Here's a song I recorded for a bunch of friends of mine. We had very basic tracking e.g. 4 drums mics - kik, snare and 2 o/h, band played live together, only the vocals were overdubbed later.

When I'm finished tracking and I'm ready to mixdown, does it matter if I go from the recorder output to the mixer XLR inputs, or should I go into the mixer 1/4" line inputs?

Someone here told me that tracking into an outboard preamp=>into mixer=>into recorder is BAD (due to extra noise of going thru the mixer preamps too). Makes sense I guess.
But now I'm confused....if I track direct from the outboard preamp =>into recorder, aren't I still going to go back thru...
