Has anyone here ever used New Jersey Factory service for fixing an analog multitrack? I have about resolved to just send in my TASCAM MSR-24 for repair to someone who knows more about it than I do. Thanks!
Thanks, Beck. I'll try and post a photo of the rec/play head soon. It distorts on source on the bad tracks even before it goes to tape. Mine is the regular MSR-24 with DBX. Someone else suggested that I try and swap the dbx cards around because even with the switched off, he said it still is...
Hi everybody- I did what was suggested to me and swapped cards around from the good channels to the ones that were distorted to see if that would fix the problem, and it didn't. It made no difference at all, and I know the cards I put in the bad channels work in their respective channels...
Yep, they are mounted "on edge" and there are even rails that each card fits into that looks like they were designed to slide in and out. They're just so darn tight that I'm scared to death I'll break one trying to pull it out. And, there's not much space to get a good grip on them either...
Hi guys- per a previous post, I looked inside the MSR-24 tonight. The front panel where the track LEDs are drops down after you take two hex screws out and there are the 24 amp cards. However, I can't figure out how to pull the things out of there, and I'm wondering if they pull out at all. I...
Hey Sweetbeats, Yep, you're right. On this forum I've already found way more help than anywhere else I've posted. I too believe digital technology has its place. I have been using Protools and before that ADATs for the last 7 or 8 years. Then it occurred to me that of all my favorite...
Thanks, Sweetbeats. I really appreciate all the great information. I am not afraid to get my feet wet. I love analog and used to work in a studio with Otari machines. I never did the whole calibration myself. I helped my boss do it. My biggest fear on this TASCAM MSR-24 is just messing...
Also, I haven't done a calibration, and don't figure it's had one recently. My understanding is that these 2 head machines are quite the bear to calibrate.
Cool. Sounds like you've had a lot of experience with different machines. One more quick question, as you've helped me the most. I'm assuming that these cards are not hot-swappable, I'll need to do it with the machine off, right? Your theory makes a lot of sense in that I bet this machine...
Thanks, Jack101! Is this machine hard to get apart? I was told it didn't have cards as such that you could pull, but you should know since you had one. Thanks again!
Hi- I bought a Tascam MSR-24 a few months ago, and am just now getting around to trying out the recording side of things. Yesterday, I discovered that 6 tracks out of 24 are distorted when going into the machine. The other 18 tracks are fine. The machine came with a pre-recorded tape, and the...
