Hi as Im still new to this and havent had a chance to set my gear online between rehearsals and recording them with my Tascam DP-01FX I now have made the time to get the ball rolling. My question is this... I looked at the drivers for my Tascam US1800 and I am confused with which to dwn load and where to store them until I plug up my unit. I have a pc (I know ) it has a large disc(HHD?) drive along with the regular HD. I was told by the builder to put all programs on the HHD drive. Do I send the drivers there also? I also have an external HD . I also have no clue which drivers to dwnld for the unit. Seems there are several. The manual says "do not plug unit in until drivers are dwnlded . I have dwnloaded several in a frustrated kinda way to my HHD one 32 bit the other 64 for windows 7 the OS thats on this computer in what will be my studio. Please if there is any help that can be given I would be very appreciative. Thanks -Steve

Welcome Steve,

FIrst, you'll need to determine if your system is 32-bit or 64-bit. In your Start Menu, select System, then About. Scroll down to System Type - you should see 32-bit or 64-bit operating system there.

Then go back to TASCAM's US-1800 page H E R E and select the correct driver.

If you have 64-bit System = US-1800 Win64 driver version 2.02

If you have 32-bit System = US-1800 Win32 driver version 2.02

It should automatically download onto your HD into your Downloads folder. The name will look weird, but it will contain the word 'driver' so you can identify it when needed. Right-click the zipped folder and 'extract all'. You can leave it right there in your downloads folder.

Now you can plug your US-1800 in and proceed.

Spantini gets you most of the way there. After downloading and unzipping (Extract All) the driver from Tascam, you have to open the newly created folder and run the setup.exe file. Double click it. Let it do its thing. When it is done, you can trash the downloaded zip file if you want, though I recommend keeping it. It is not needed anymore unless you need to reload the driver for any reason.

Once the driver has been installed, you need to select it when using any DAW program. It is going to be the ASIO driver.

Thank you guys!! perfect ! Now to man up and get somethings going!!

Hi Chili or Spantini or whoever else might see this
I'm chiming in here a good number of years later but I'm hoping you can tell me about the other drivers Tascam has posted regarding the US-1800. I am after the win 7 64x drivers but they have two other drivers listed after the original V2.02 from 2011. There's V2.05 from 2014 and V2.07rc1 from 2016. Any idea what those two are for? Maybe a Win10 version of the driver? I didn't think they made one.
Thanks in advance.

Hi Howard, can I fill in while the experts are busy? I would suggest installing the latest (largest number) driver you can see. I doubt there would be a problem if it were the wrong one? Tascam are a well respected company and we hear nothing AFAIK of people having setup or driver problems.

As regards W10, Tascam might well have a driver for it? The US 1800 was a well loved interface and for a long time 'the only game in town' if you wanted that many channels. I suspect there are tens of thousands of happy users.

Dave.

I am using the latest with my US 1800, on Win10 and I have no issues.

Are you using the V2.07rc1 for W10?
I'm just curious as I plan on setting up my US-1800 on my Win10 machine as well. My Win 7 system is just for recording stuff live off the floor outside my studio.

I don't remember the version, I would have to boot up my recording machine and look, but it is the latest they released on Win10 64 bit. It was worked without issue and I have used it on Ableton and Reaper.

One thing I would make sure you do, before you go into your DAW, make your settings in the interface software before you load up the DAW. Other than that, I have had no issues with my 1800 for 8+ years.

Thanks Dave - I agree Tascam is awesome and has done well by me over the years. I started out back in the early 90s using a PortaStudio-2 4-track and a 112 cassette deck to master down to. Then a few years later I tracked a few albums on the MSR-16 reel to reel. Such a reliable machine and so quiet. I would have liked to have gotten the 1608 interface but I got a sweet deal on the 1800 and I'm super excited to put it to good use capturing live bed tracks off the floor. I'm planning to use it on a Windows 7 machine for live capture and then on my Windows 10/11 machine in my studio to do the rest of the tracks.

Thanks! I'll keep that in mind. I'm glad to hear it's worked out well for you all these years. I was kind of wondering if I should have went for the 1608. I'll be using it with Sonar X3 (pretty much the same as bandlab but a little older). I've used Cakewalk since it was owned by 12Tone and just a MIDI sequencer on Windows 3.11. I'm so familiar with it I've never bothered to work on anything else.
