That is just a matter of new laws to fit the new paradigm. You or I aren't going to suddenly start buying guns to sell on the street illegally and anyone who does gets locked away for a long damn time. As well any street shit in possession. After a grandfather period if you have a gun you best well have a license to carry or to stir you go.

Background. I am not a a gun nut. Never owned until I moved to the woods where there are porcupines and the occasional rabid coyote that could fuck with my dog. Ain't had to shoot any yet but if it comes to that I can and will.

In reality it shouldn't. I assume you are younger than me but back in the day - 60s, 70s - liberalism was anti-war, women's rights, anti-racist in the most basic terms. Liberalism is still anti-war, women's rights, anti-racist, etc. I submit that any perceived liberal elitism comes from feeling superior to those that are pro-war, anti women’s rights, racist, etc. I further submit that superiority would be justified.

I have watched Trump for over forty years. He is a despicable little man that I wouldn't let any where near my daughters, my wife or my wallet. It has nothing to do with his politics, he doesn't have any, any way the wind blows. He couldn't cut it as a democrat, couldn't con them, so he switched parties. I have to hand it to him though, he sure knows how to grift.
