72 YO guitar player.... Half baked music talent for sure.... I have an MRS-4 and so far I like it a lot.... DAWs were not my cup o' tea..... I like the buttons.. LOL Started playing music when I was 12. I have a little home studio and record songs for my granddaughter. I download the MRS-4 software BUT, all I get is the MRS-8 card reader... which doesn't work.... IS THERE an MRS-4 Card reader out there? This forum is going to be soooo helpful for me if I don't wear out my welcome

If you have Internet access, you can download the MRS-4 Card Manager software from the Zoom Corporation web site free of charge (Windows/Macintosh versions). It allows a computer equipped with a SmartMedia card reader to manage MRS-4 data. The software provides the following functions.
● Convert MRS-4 audio data into WAV files
● Convert WAV/AIFF format audio files into MRS-4 audio data
● Back up the SmartMedia card contents onto the hard disk of the compute

I think this is what you need and the software will read the card

Thanks very much... Unfortunately the ZOOM software package does NOT include the MRS-4 card manager.... Do you know of another source?

I only know what I read real quick. But the card reader is just an add on you can get from Amazon, the software allows you to read the card. I assumed that Zoom still has downloads on their site.

No software for the MRS-4 (yet) but Windows 11 reads my card reader and allows me to copy/move files

I lived in the N.E. for a long time and always wanted to get to Maine, especially Acadia. Beautiful state but alas, the closest I got was Rhode Island
when my transmission blew up. I still have some time left but it is now a long ways off.

If you can read the card, then I would assume the software is no longer needed. Just remember, most devices will play .wav files. To convert to MP3s there are a host of software that will do that.

One thing you may want to consider is getting a DAW to drag those tracks into and expand them or "fix" the mix. It is a bit more complicated, but beyond what appears within your capabilities.

According to the manual, you need to the Card Manager software (from DM60's link) to convert the native AUD audio format files to Wav or AIFF. Once in Wav format, you just toss them into Audacity and convert them to MP3, or any other supported format. Hopefully the software will work with Win11 (not guaranteed tho, as it's probably a 16 bit file format. I tried it and it launched in Win 10. IF you really get stuck, I still have an XP machine operating... just saying).

WOW! This is some old software. I looked at the help file. Check out the system requirements!! That's some heavy duty stuff... for circa 2003. For today, it barely challenges a cheapo smartphone. How far we have come in 20 years.

1-2.System Requirements
* Windows computer running Windows 98SE/Me/2000/XP (Windows 98SE and Pentium 166MHz or higher is recommended)
* Free hard disk space : 250MB or more
* Memory of 32MB or more
* Sound card ( for listening to audio data; SoundBlaster or compatible recommended )
* Display:800 x 600 or higher(True Color)
* Internet Explorer 4.01 or higher / Netscape Communicator 4.0 or higher

Have you been able to try converting any of your MRS4 files with the Card Manager software?

Nope, not yet... as I said earlier ZOOM doesn't offer the MRS-4 software, just the MRS-8 which doesn't work... Maybe I'll buy an MRS-8 (it uses SD cards so no more of the smartmedia would be nice... gotta' be either a converter out there or some nice person saved the MRS-4 install.exe?

I now live in the Appalachians in Southwest Virginia on the Tn and Kentucky border. I didn't want to move to Fla. and I wanted milder winters. I didn't want
to move back to the rockies, I lived there for about 12 years but never really liked it. I lived in the mountains in upstate N.Y. and I wanted to stay in the mountains so
here I am.

Tried FL... did not like it... I am a native Mainer and now suffer with the cold.... HA!

The manager was on the page DM60 pointed to. Here's a direct link to the file. I downloaded it and it ran under Win 10, so there's a good chance it will run under 11 as well.

 
Could be you've got Windows 11 S - may be in default Safe Mode (what the S means) which only allows installation of Microsoft approved items or apps from their Microsoft Store. You can disable Safe Mode, which will allow you to install most anything.
