Manslick

Road
Technically not an MP3 in the MP3 Mixing Clinic, this is my offering for this year.

Not ready to break the chain just yet.

This is called I'm a working girl.

Merry Christmas. :thumbs up:

Nice Ghost mask! :D

The vocals are pretty dark.
More drum variety would be nice.

The subtle synths are very cool tho.

*edit*

Just hit the octave jump. Vocals sound much better after that point.

I'm always stoked to see a new Manslick song in the clinic - they're just too infrequent these days! This was a really nice - I like the surreal stream of consciousness flow of the lyrics and the vocals are great. The slow build up of the arrangement is really cool, drums and organ sound great too.

The only thing that sounds off to me is the left panned acoustic that's playing a lead - it kind of fades in and out of time and melody with the rest of the song like it's just jamming along with everything else. Oh, and the mask that I'm now going to see in my nightmares. Thanks for that.

Thanks for posting this up man. Good work :)

Oh yeah! Me likey lots! Totally! Dark and spooky....Not to pigeon hole the style but it does in some way lend itself to a Roger Waters with Tom Petty and Bob Dylan on the sidelines....kind of space and place... You could be in worse place ;)

Good Job Mang!

I changed this with your comments in mind. Added a bunch of home made sounds.

Re recorded the guitar noodling, added a new synth, banged on a ladder and a frying pan.

Happy new year.

Vocals are pretty high until the vocal effect change.

Otherwise, didn't hear anything that poked out. Different tune for sure.

Thanks DM. You mean the vocals are too loud?

Yes, just the first part until it changes with an effect. Couldn't see the timer. Guess I should look at the Soundcloud site to get the clock count.

I'd like to hear a delay echoing some of the major lines after the octave jump. It'll fill out space nicely and reinforce the dark theme. yeah? just an idea. great song and mix

hey andrushkiwt, there is a delay on the vox though it is subtle, good idea there to bring that out some more. many thanks for the spin and the feedback.

listened again. once the guitar came in, i instantly remembered the melody of the vocal. i think that's important to note. strings sound very nice. that distorted bass sits very well too. and yeah, i noticed the delay that comes in sometimes. i guess i'd use it in other places as well, and maybe a little more frequently. i'd have to know the song inside and out and have the template written in front of me to see where i'd put it. the first big delay must be different than the later ones you used, that first one is large and prominent and the others more subtle.

New mix sounding good Manslick. From memory, I preferred the drums on the first mix as I seem to remember they were much dryer? Other changes sounding really good though - it's better without the jammy guitar bit and the part where the vocals open up is really very nice. Good job! :)

Since you mentioned this I been working on the andrushkiwt mix.
I learned a new trick where I can send the delayed signal to a separate mix channel.
It is something I never did before.
There is so much to consider. Like, panning the delay - is wild.
But I worry I will go overboard.
So I must live with this a while.
Thanks so much for suggesting that. :thumbs up:

Thanks Rob, yeah I been monkeying around with the drums.
I learned how to send separate hits to different reverbs.
So I just left it in after I got used to it.

Sounding better and better all the time. One thing to think about, you do such a nice job on the guitar, especially in the early parts, maybe the vocals and the guitar should go in and out with each other. Vocals forward, fades off as the guitar comes in to take over, etc. Nice guitar sound.

Just thoughts, but some of the additions you are making really is making and interesting song even more interesting.

My thoughts too. But man it is so hard to trim that. :)

I thought of that as well. :)

Well I been sitting here riding the guitar fader.

it is interesting that when the guitar is not the focus, other things fill it in that I forgot I even put in there.

Thanks for suggesting this.
