That was really painful. Plus he was too lazy to play it all the way through.
I could have a negative bias however. I absolutely hate everything I've heard from fractal audio. I got a buddy who swears by his, I've never been impressed.

I've emailed him to ask ........ A couple of the mods (one in particular ) kinda do bannings on their own personal whims and i know a couple of them really dislike teh gerg.

It's wrong of any of them to use their mod powers for their own personal prejudices but it's not the only place in the modern world where some in power abuse it.

He'll email me back and I'll letcha know what's going on.

Liking the latest Blackstar toans.

Cheers, I'm getting used to how to balance the volume and gain against eachother. I'm gonna really get on with some recording now over the next couple of weeks although I am off to France for a few days tomorrow.

The SD1 really helps with tightening up the bottom end.

I took a listen yesterday, but I didn't comment because my thoughts echoed other folks' thoughts.

What I didn't realize was that you are using a Blackstar, and I must say that for my perspective on 'good tone', this is one of the best sounding examples I have heard from a Blackstar amp. I must admit that I have never played one in person, rather I have only listened to (dozens of) Youtube examples, and I also must admit that I am currently more interested in more classic sounding lower gain tones (my current GAS is for a Marshall Class 5 - these sound just unbelievably sweet to my ears).

Anyway, I think it sounds great. You are doing a good job of refining what you want into a very good tone, IMO.

Now I've got that dialed in its pretty easy to strip the gain out of it and turn it back into a crunch. Considering its a pretty simple amp, it was a little tricky to dial in for recording - sounds great in the room.

Shit, just noticed, is Greg banned?
yep ..... someone launched personal attacks against him, he reported them, the mods actually defended Greg, and he still got banned.
I imagine that was the personal action of one particular mod ..... apparently they want trolls and noobs calling the shots.
They're so concerned with participation awards and coddling everyone's feelings that they're driving away the people that actually record.
They're actually protecting trolls.

He said it's for a month so all of us will have to step up and replace him here until he's back.

Ah, well that's total wank. I've always thought most of the mod here are generally alright though.

I'm surprised that Greg reported them actually - I'd have thought he'd just tell them to fuck off.

.
most of them are actually but there's a couple that consider it their personal power space.

But we can do nothing so we'll just have to tone out and have a zillion pages added when greg gets back

Bob, I'm assuming Greg can still read the forum (alright, dude) you'll have to get email feedback from him.

He'll only be able to read the forum if he logs out and views it as a guest. We're exchanging emails atm because we have a joint project on the go, but I didn't know till now that he was banned.

Bollocks, it'it?

---------- Update ----------

We should start a tone threaders what'sapp group instead.

Just to be clear, no mod banned Gerg. Admin did. Let's not make one of the best threads here a mod bash please?

Greg will be extremely missed here for sure.

Regardless, Jimmy, it's still fucking nonsense.

That may be, but I am just attempting to keep the facts straight.

This should actually be discussed in another place. No need to tarnish this awesome thread with what happened in others.

Agreed. It might be better if we just accepted that in certain circumstances it might be a good idea just to bite one's lip and ignore something or somebody, regardless of how wrong we feel they are. Especially about something as subjective as home recording. In some ways, I see the argument as similar to visual art. There might be a faction that claims you can't make good art unless you're using charcoals and oil paints on canvas and working exclusively from live subjects. Another faction might make art entirely within photoshop and digital manipulation. There will be hundreds of artists working on a continuum in between those two poles. With all of them, it's the art that matters and if your art is actually art from your own brain, aesthetic sense and desire to express yourself, rather than a commercial product delivered to a customer using the most convenient tools available, then it's all good.

The story, so far, is interesting. Hoisted by his own petard - in the literal/original meaning of the phrase - is pretty weird. It seems that trying to work with the system isn't well tolerated in some instances.
There are a few people who's help, opinions and knowledge- let alone their music, keep the purpose of this site strong yet the admin appear no to be aware of this or if they do they don't seem to understand.
back to tone - my bass...I can't hear the phase, Greg can hear the phase, Robus can hear ring on strings and, if I've picked up the continuity of the sub topic on this nebulous thread, Lt. Bob doesn't hear it either.
INTERESTING. Well, the bass switch tone seems pretty good, isn't phasey according to Greg and records fairly easily so I guess the bass is going to be useful.

Did it turn out to be an unmuted string then? My next guess would have been that tailpiece vibrating.

Don't know the circumstances. That said, I hope it's not a permanent ban.
