Cubase and/or Steinberg Audio Interface Expertise?

Alas....the needle has been pushed forward.

Seems as if I hover the Gain around the 7th dot, I can avoid clipping.

Now the next step will be to figure out how to make my Track + the Original groove into 1 track and then I will be on my way to answering questions about Cubase for the next Newbie....err maybe not just yet...

Question before I move on - Why is it that when I plugged in to Input 2 I got no sound on the playback? I'm guessing that's just a simple mapping of the channel somewhere...but that doesn't make sense in that it lends itself to something that's NOT seamless

Just to explain "why I'm here..."

I had been doing some recordings/playalongs and capturing those on my Edirol R09 (Roland...not that you didn't know...but just in case).

Then I got a really cool SLR camera and thought it was a good time to do the YouTube thing and post video of myself. When I started doing that, I completely forgot about the Edirol.

Someone saw my last video and said "It sounds like you're playing from a tape recorder" and I realized that the camera mic was the problem...no adapter for an external mic...but still forgot about the Edirol. As such, I looked for solutions and was told '...you need an audio interface...'

Curious to hear from you all if you think I'd be just as fine doing what I want to do w/o the interface?? Obviously I can do plenty with the software as I get more savvy, and obviously I might want to do more than just dub or record over a track and merge to a video, but would still love to hear your thoughts...

That will be where you import the track into cubase, mix the levels of your track and the groove track and export the mix.

Refer to the output bus being selected on the track as before for the other track.

The Edirol is a field recorder. It can be used to record, but not really useable as an interface. You did the right thing man.

Now you can use Cubase to edit and mix with the interface giving you the ability to do so.

Many thanks. I knew I needed to export but feared that if I tried "Audio Mixdown" the whole thing would blow up in my face.

...I lose minus 25 coolpoints for everything today and yesterday...i know

Thanks again for all the feedback and support. I know where to go the next time I graduate on to the next purchase or step of this Project and Journey called music. I mean that!

No problem man.

You gonna be ok. The toughest thing for most new Cubase users is initial setup.

It gets easier from here. Well, until you get into the depths of what it can do...

Just hit us up if you run into a snag.

Now go have some fun! :)

Dudes and Dudettes,
It's been a while since I've posted on here. I have been getting this message lately and prevents me from executing on a recording in 1 take:

Recording Error: Audio drop out detected

Instead I have to keep going back and trying over and over hoping that I don't get the message for the entire duration of the song.

Is there a resolution to this?

That likely means your system is falling behind. Try increasing your buffer size if it doesn't cause to much latency.

Have you setup your computer for audio performance? What is your system and OS?

How do I increase said "buffer size"

This is a Windows 7....go ahead, judge me....

Ah - I see. I am currently at 512 (Input Latency: 16.145, Output Latency: 19.116)

You think if I change to 768 (Input Latency: 21.95, Output Latency: 25.918) it'd make the difference?

Same here though I do have W10 on a PC I keep meaning to get to grips with* Yes, 7 is fine except that I have had a couple of serious problems in the last month. Maybe the "cracks" are showing as I found with my beloved XP?
*but, I hateithateithateit!

Biggest clobberer of PCs? Wireless hard and software, turn it off in Services.

Dave.

On that note, I am thinking of getting a new laptop. Any general thoughts on whether I should go PC or Apple this time around? People have raved about the macs for years on years...but now everyone says a plain old Dell or Microsoft has caught up...Would love a recommendation!
