I keep waking up dead.....

Sounds really good to me. Excellent separation, and it s-o-u-n-d-s good. Around the 1.45 mark you sing 'cuz waking up dead slows me down down down'. The backing tracks continue through the 'down down down' bit, but you could experiment with muting stuff in that segment just for a couple of seconds to emphasize the vocal and provide a bit of contrast for when the tune moves on from there.

HAHAHA! That's awesome. My favorite stupid movie ever.

I think I'll watch it tonight. The whole thing. Free:

Okay, never saw it before, so I watched it. One of Reeves' more charming roles. My favorite scene, and I don't know why, was Genghis Khan in the mall when he finds the baseball bats and clubs the head off the dummy. Thanks for the link.

Such a well-defined sound! Only thing that I don't like (and its a personal preference) is the widely-panned cymbals/hi-hat - I know lots of people pan this way (like the listener is actually sitting at the drum throne).

Thanx Dobro. I'm not at my desk now, but I'll check out what you're talking about. Thanx for pointing out the time so I'll know exactly what you're talking about when I listen again.

Haha! that's a great scene. Like I said, it's my favorite stupid movie. No thinking required, but a well put together comedy. :D

Thanx MJB. I'm hearing that comment a little more often since I went to a spaced pair of overheads a few months ago. I used to use a kind of Recorderman style for years and never heard that complaint. I might re-consider how I place those overheads. Thanx a lot, man.

I remember this song but I'm sure I remember slightly different lyrics. Good track and very nice performances all round. I like how it fits so much into just 3 minutes, although it seems longer when listening.

It all sounds pretty damn good here, for me, I'd stick a fork in it. :thumbs up:

Thanx a lot Mr.

I think the lyrics are pretty much the same with maybe a few very little changes. What I did do was take out the choruses, which were weak. I found the tune didn't need a dedicated chorus. The verses sort of resolve on their own. That's also why it went from over 4 minutes to barely over 3. I'm impressed that you remember it and noticed any changes. Thanx buddy.

Another extremely cool tune Rami. Your vocals are excellent. I really like the sound of your voice. More so with each new song I hear as well.

I'd buy full albums of your music in a heartbeat.

I am not hearing the same level of power and definition in the low end of this mix that I am hearing in the mids and up. I can hear the bass, and I can hear the kick, and when I focus on them, I think they sound good, but taken as a whole, the bottom end of the mix isn't pounding on me like I want it to. I loaded up this this puppy in REAPER, and using ReaEQ, I added [HP @ 60Hz @ 1.4 oct to add a resonant shelf; Band @ 110Hz @ 1.25 oct @ 3dB boost; Band @ 250Hz @ .5 oct @ -5dB cut] and it helped the low end to come to life a bit here in my space. This could very well be just something with my space, or it could be my ears, or anything else, but here, in my mix room, it made a positive difference.

Anyway, aside from picking up on that, this sounds great to me. I like the guitar tones a lot. Earlier someone said they are dark. Yeah, I think so too, but I like that. They could be contributing to what I was hearing in the low end, which is why those various settings above are working here? Very, very good track all around. You just keep hitting them out of the park for me. I really like your writing and your performances are spot on.

Man, I can't tell you how much I appreciate that. Makes my day.

I'm going to try your EQ adjustments just to see if we hear things the same. We have different rooms, etc....I can't right now, but I'll set up ReaEQ tomorrow and make the same adjustments. Just looking at them, they're much more aggressive cuts and boosts than I ever do. If I boost something, it will rarely be with such a wide Q. Usually, same with my cuts. I also have this little quirk where I say that if I have to boost something more than 4db, or cut more than 6db, I have to re-track and get it right. Maybe I'm too conservative with my EQ'ing. I have no idea, I didn't really learn this from anyone. Just winging it, doing some reading and a lot of experimenting. So, I'll almost always try someone's suggestion if they're as specific as you just were. I really appreciate that.

Stay tuned. :D

Awesome, Rami. Looking forward to learning how it compares in your room.

I have similar kinds of guidelines when it comes to EQ for the most part, but if my ears are liking it, I just simply leave it despite what my notions are. This is difficult considering my OCD issues. Those settings might indeed be too drastic, but perhaps a happy medium in around that area will work.

As a disclaimer, I am still learning my room/monitors and I feel that I need more development on my low end mixing abilities. I am particularly interested and enthusiastic about the low end of the mix these days though. I'll admit that there is a bit of a selfish side to how much I like to leave feedback on mixes, because I think that in addition to giving another mixer a perspective, it helps me to develop my own critical ear and then get counter feedback on whether or not the artist agrees. It's good for everyone, I think :).

Anyway, I'll watch this space!

Okay, you get my vote for president. That's how to do it. I learned. It doesn't matter if RAMI acts on what you heard and what you did and what you heard. How you did it and how you reported it was very cool. I'm on.

Sounds great man, guitar tones are stellar IMO....Really, everything is....The only nit I have is the mix as a whole needs just a little more bottom end thump, but not much...I know too much would make it sound muddy/un-defined, but it may just be me too...That's just being super-picky too man, great job!!!

Thanx man. I'm going to be playing with Fishy's idea with ReaEQ later on. If I find those adjustments work, I'm going to go back and try to apply them to the bass and kik, rather than the whole mix. But I will do all I can to get more thump out of the mix.

Thanx man.

I agree with this man, because if you strap an eq on the master, sure, it'd bring the bottom end up, but it might make the guitars, vocals, etc muddy in the process...After listening again, I think the kick is ok, might just need a touch of bottom on the bass??? Just suggestions dude, it's fine as-is...Wish I could get my recordings to sound as clear & defined as yours...

Thanx man.
Absolutely dude, great song!!!

OK, I made a few low end adjustments. I didn't touch any volumes, just tried to give the bass guitar and kick a bit more meat with EQ.

I also cut my vocals at about 3.4k a few db.

After I did all that, I realized that I wanted to try Dobro's idea of muting some back vocals at certain times. I do want to try that at some point when I re-visit the tune. Right now, I don't think I can stomach listening to this any more. Maybe in a week or so, I'll be able to re-visit it and then definitely try that idea, too.

Thanx for all the help and suggestions, guys.

WOKE UP DEAD

All the songs I've heard to date have that "common flavor". That RAMI sound, and that's a good thing. I think even without it being labeled, one could tell it was yours stuff if they were familiar with your music.

RAMIesque?
You've had your own sound for years & it's based on many great parts making a greater whole.
Last posted mix sounds really cool.
The reverse solo is foreboding but that's on top of the ominous tone of the song.
I have an effect in Guitar rig hat does the forward & back guitars together - it's cool but I can't play solos so it's redundant.
Sounds excellent in this song.
