Boss BR-80 Bounce question.

Hi,

I have a Boss BR-80 which is a splendid bunch of tricks but I'm a bit confused on the bouncing front. I have a song in the MTR mode and most tracks have been used so I thought I'd combine a few into one. Going into the Bounce function though, it seems I have to mix EVERYTHING I've recorded down to one virtual track. Is this the only way?
Ideally I'd like to just bound tracks 6,7 and 8 onto Track 3 and then all the backing vocals are on one track. Can I actually Do this?

BR800 maybe? Never heard of a BR80. Looking at the manul, there does nto seem to be a 'bounce' function (the BR600 had a switch for it). I guess youuse the 'mastering' function for bouncing, so you select the virtual tracks that you want to send to it, this becomes your bounced mix.

It's one of these...

It DOES bounce to a V Track but it seems you have to bounce EVERYTHING you've recorded rather than a few selected tracks...
 
If you can import and export tracks, try the following.
Export the entire project (all the tracks).
Delete the tracks that you do not need bounced
Bounce all the backups (everything that's left) onto one track
Import the entire project.
Delete the backups that are now bounced onto a single track.

Hope that works.
 
If not:
Save the song
Erase all but one track.
Save the song to your computer as .wav
Repeat for all tracks.
Now you can import whatever you want (see importing audio data on pg 78 of the manual) and bounce, save that as a .wav

But this assumes you have access to a computer...
 
Or... don't try and record your multi track epic on what is essentially a sketchpad...
 
Well, I used to squeeze 12 tracks from my 4-track Tascam cassette recorder, so I don;t see why this wouldn't do the same (but without the hiss!).

I played the 4 track bouncy bounce game too. Just for a short time. To get 12 on just the 4 track you have to double bounce each track but the last...but it works. I was fortunate to be able to use my computer. Record four and mix it to the computer. Repeat four times and you have 16 tracks on single bounce that you can work with. Usually did drums first on four, then guitars for four, then bass/keys/pads whatever and vocals last. You get some lousy mixes, but you get a lot of tracks...If I knew then what I know now, I'd have gotten a lot better mixes and might have stuck with it! :D

Good for you. And you probably can. But you don't have to, is my point. There are many simpler ways of travelling the long road from A to B these days than via the Boss BR80 unicycle, if you want to "seriously" record. Of course if using that machine is part of the creative constraint that you want, or have, to operate under, then good luck - you may be spending a lot of time here working stuff out.

I am curious as to why the self limitation?

Well, I just wanted something quick and convenient to record on and this is easily capable of producing what I want/need, I'm just surprised I can't play the ping pong game like I used to on the "old" technology! I also have a few time consuming interests other than recording so don't have the time (or money) to buy and figure out a dedicated PC recording station so The little Boss thing suits me fine. Plus I like to keep it as old school as possible and most of my favourite 60's bands only had a fraction of the recording capability of even this, so it's a nice challenge.

I have it all figured out other then the ping pong thing and it looks like you DO have to bounce everything to a V track but that just means recording slightly differently next time I guess.
