My unit works just fine with batteries, but when I plug in the AC power adapter, the unit just doesn't show up. No power at all. I've checked the power plugs and they're okay. Any suggestions, please????

Possibly, although the WATT is the unit of power and therefore doesn't need an adaptor.
Or something.

Perhaps we had better say?
"Just joshing with you Rikky"! Please give us make and model number. Also the term "AC Adaptor" can mean several of 3 things.
1) Mains AC in, low voltage AC out
2) Mains AC in low voltage DC out unregulated. (bad idea)
3) Mains AC in low voltage DC out regulated and there is a subgroup of regulated supplies! Linear and SMPS.
