We're doing just fine, so far.
Seemed unadvisable at best to go stripping an refinishing a gold top, but i don't reckon it turned out too bad. Whatsay you, y'all or whatever?
It is funny how silent this thread has gotten since I posted the last picture. Just goes to show how some were hoping for a train wreck. The finish on this LP is very light, I didn't use my compressor or guns. I have used Preval sprayers, the PSI loading is negligible. I am curious though to see how much of the 18 ozs was just the thinner. I think it is time for an experiment.
Could just be because you've forgotten already how to post reasonable sized pictures. I have no feelings either way on the sanctity of gold tops and/or what you're doing to your guitar - I'll look at your finish when you get the result under 200kB.
An experiment?
Yeah, well, I wouldn't get too used to the quiet just yet.
Just out of curiosity, how did it come about that you're able to now sell it for more than if it had remained a true gold top? Seems kind of a sin, somebody got rocks in their head, more money than sense/taste.
You hope! What're you asking? Are you using "gold top" as a selling point, and why? Although it's not important that I do, I don't get it.
Hey look what I'm working on right now......when I had it on ebay, completely finished, for sale.....![]()

When I refinished my '66 strat is was more of a crime against my wallet.
Do you ever actually work on anything?
One of my local customers may want to upgrade all the hardware to gold, isn't that ironic.
Yes, agreed! Goldtops -awesome. Gold hardware - yuck.I've never really liked gold hardware. Always seemed a gild the lily or polish a turd thing. Either way what's the point....plus gold doesn't wear well and looks like hell and cheap eventually.
Yeah, I worked on something last week. Let me post up the pics like I'm doing it right now.
Ironic might not exactly be the word that comes to mind...something 'ronic maybe.

What're you asking for the axe?
Well since you asked. I think we can see now why Gibson culled that particular guitar to be a gold top. That big dark part of the wood grain looks like the eye of Jupiter. Personally, I’d paint it black. We're doing just fine, so far.
