Hey guys,

Here’s a new one our band (Bag of Toys) is working on.

We’re hoping to release this album ourselves, and this is one of the songs that I feel is close.

My biggest problem is usually the low end as I’m mixing almost exclusively on cans, so please let me know if it’s a big mess or not.

Currently I’ve got a drum machine rolling in the back, but that will be replaced by live drums very soon.

In any case, here’s the tune. Feel free to shred apart!

Sounds good to me although I feel that the Master is being pushed a little too much. The low end is a bit? Muddy? Can't put my finger on it. Great tune though, and the performance is bang on. Could hear this being the theme tune to a TV Show or something.

Good stuff, just watch the Master level. :thumbs up:

Hey Mr. Clean!

Thanks for checking out the tune and giving some feedback. I'm having lots of trouble on my low end. It's always too much or too little. I think i need to figure out what I'm doing there. I also feel like the high end might be a little too crisp.

I think I agree there. I'm forced to listen on phones right now (sony MDR 7506) which are a bit bass-lite, but to me it sounds scooped...like both the high and low end are a bit exaggerated, and/or the mids are lacking. It's a tight performance though, and mix-wise, I guess I'd have to hear it though speakers to be sure...

Hmmm... It might be my bastardized usage of Ozone.

Thanks for checking it out. I need to take a look.

the main problem with it is that the bass is too compressed whilst the high end is too dynamic and open, can we hear the pre-mastered final mix? with no effects at all on the master buss?

I think mixing on headphones is the main problem here, but it's understandable if that is the only way you can mix.

Hmmm..interesting.

I think I've got too many bass plug-ins going on. I'll take a look at that as well.

I'll see if I can save it out today without the mastering crap on it.

Yeah get Ozone out of it. It can do more harm than good in a lot of cases. Do a new mix and upload it. Don't worry about the mastering stage. Get the mix right first. Even if it's a bit quiet, we have volume controls.

I look forward to hearing a new mix. :thumbs up:

Hey guys,

Here is the mix without Ozone or anything on the stereo mix:

Let me know if you think this is any better.

It could use a little de essing particularly until the instruments are all happening.
The 2nd mix sounds much better by the way though the rim shot is really harsh in my earholes (using h.phones).
Cool tune, performance and mix just a little tweaking to do.
What's a "feenie"?
