Tascam 234, As soon as you put a tape in the drive it goes right into fast forward

hi, i'm new here.

I have a Tascam 234 and as soon as you put a tape in the drive it goes right into fast forward??????? This is all it will do and you can't stop it no matter what. Well if you push and hold STOP or PLAY it stops but as soon as you release your finger its goes right back into FF???.

It has new idler tires/Control Belt/Pinch roller and capstan belt.

I hope you can help me.

Thanks for the reply. Yes I know it runs at 3 3/4 but what would that have to do with a stuck fast forward...

As soon as a cassette is inserted into the Tascam 234, it goes right into fast forward and won't stop even when at the end of the tape. It you push STOP/PLAY it stops momentarily while my finger is on STOP but as soon as I release the STOP or PLAY button it goes right back into fast forwarding. You can push any button but as soon as you release the button it goes right into fast forward again....

I turn the deck on and as soon as a tape is inserted it goes into fast forward!, Why is this???. Its like there a ghost thats keeps clicking fast forward constantly. Could there be a short doing this?.

I even unhooked the transport button harness and it still is stuck in fast forward.

HELP! PLEASE!.
