What's the cheapest Cubase version u can buy for a Mac?

Sorry, I bought the Steinberg MR816csx without realizing that it only works on Cubase. I thought the reverb was onboard without going thru the software to make it work. So anyways, long story short is that I need a cheap Cubase to run on my Mac. SInce I bought the unit used...it won't have a software (Cubase 6 AI) to go with it.

According to this...Steinberg MR816 CSX

You can use the interface with any DAW software but some advanced features are only available via Cubase....But! The AI, for all its connectivity does not have MIDI, clots! I am therefore going to suggest a bit of a left field solution. Buy a Steinberg UR22!

Nice little interface of itself and has MIDI but best of all comes with Cubase! You would not be able to run both AIs together as audio because ASIO won't let ya but it will run just MIDI.

I have no use for Midi. I only sing. Don't know how to play any instruments When they say onboard dsp, I thought it means u don't need software. Isn't that's why the csx version costs more? If the x and csx version both use software..then maybe that's why they discontinued the csx since u'd be doing it thru software anyways.

The MR816csx is a moderately high-end piece of hardware and just using it for singing is kind of a waste of money if you ask me.

If you're spending that type of money, and you're only singing, (aside from the UR22) take a look at the Scarlett Studio bundle. It has a mic, xlr cable, headphones, Scarlett 2i2 (2 xlr/tsr ins and no midi), and Cubase LE 6. The bundle is far more reasonably priced for what you want to do (id est, sing!)

PS - I'm assuming that you don't have all (or most of) this equipment already. The Scarlett 2i2 + Cubase Elements 7 ($160 total) might be a better route if you have cables, mic, and headphones already.

You can download a fully functioning trial of Cubase that will give you 30days to see if the AI does what you need.

TBH (and I never thought I would say this!) you might be better off with a Beringer Xenyx 802 FX usb! Even better look for an Allen and Heath ZED 10FX.

But that interface is quite a beast and I would have thought someone with Cubase could make good use of it? If I had not had to pack in the job I would make you an offer!

I was going to suggest a usb mixer, but being a former xenxy owner- I really don't like the preamps for recording vocals.

Well the Xenyx pre amps are the generic discrete transistor/opamp hybrid that you find in 95% of mixers and AIs. You would have to stick a nought on the price of an X 802 to get any audible improvement over them IMO and, IIRC, the "cheap" was in the thread title?

Lol, I'm with you - gotta stay within your budget I guess... Even if it does mean roughing it with a xenyx.
