-Hi guys

I'm currently in the process of setting up my first computer based recording set up and am looking for some suggestions on interfaces.

I just ordered a 2.6GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i7 Mac mini witch I will be upgrading with a Samsung 840 Pro Series 256 GB SSD and 16GB of G.skill DDR3 RAM.

how ever I am having trouble finding an interface. I plan on purchasing a 8 or 16 I/0 apogee symphony in the future but would like to get something cheaper in the mean time to play around with while I save up some funds.

I'm looking for a interface with at least 8 channels of input, how ever I would also prefer 8 channels of output as well. I would also like each channel to have its own individual phantom power and possibly pad selection if possible.

I was looking at the PreSonus AudioBox 1818VSL but heard some crummy things about their drivers and other stuff. I also was looking at the Motu 8pre but it looks like these are no longer in production and I have not been able to find many reviews on it.

I plan on using the personas studio one DAW software and I mainly do all my recordings with real physical interments. (various rock music) recorded threw various microphones and microphone set ups.

so yeah Im not really sure what to get so if anyone has any suggestions I would appreciate hearing them.

Thanks

Hi Rex. That ^ reads as though you already have a setup, a mixer with direct outs perhaps? If that is the case look at the Allen &Heath ICE 16.

Do you mean individually SWITCHED phantom power? If so you probably won't get that on an AI. Best you will find is banks of four. Mind you, spook juice is not going to harm any modern mic and if you have some old, precious ribbons a 48V isolator box is beer into water to make.

Justfort! How about an RME inyerface and a one of the new Behringer ADAT boxes?

Dave.

Yup, gets a good reccy'. Bit mean of the "inventors" not to put MIDI I/O on it for 700quid? Plenty of room.

Dave.

Ya know, I wondered why they didn't myself. Though I have no use for it myself. I find the units very solid. Love em. :)

Thanks for your In put guys.

The steinberg UR824 my very well be the ticket. Any one have any experince with one? Was also lookin at the M-Audio ProFire 2626 as it seems to fit the bill as well. Any one have any input on it?

Witch would you choose?

Was also wondering how well either of these units would work with presonus stuido one DAW?

Thanks guys
-Rex

I have two of the UR824's. The second is basically an ADAT slave that gives me 16 inputs/tracks. It allows for another 8 ADAT inputs for a total of 24 tracks via USB2.0.

I love em. :)
