Audio Interface question!!

Ok, so yesterday i bought a Tascam US-1800, and i am running it through SonarX1.. At first I wasnt able to bring up all the inputs from my interface in the DAW, but after some research i changed the driver from MME to ASIO.. And now it only brings up the odd number channels??? any help?? Also, on the MME i can playback recorded audio through the realtech speakers, but not the ASIO??? is there a way to have both working??? Im confused... any help would be appreciated thanks!!

ASIO is the one you want.
Are you sure your speakers are hooked up to the interface correctly?
Not sure about the inputs though, when I first got my tascam us1800 and ran it through reaper I just had to change the inputs, that I want to be shown on the track inputs, in preferences on the same page where you choose ASIO

Any chance your viewing through input selection for a stereo track?
That would present groups in pairs.

So pretty much i have hook up speakers to the interface in order to be played back?? ... I'm not sure whats going on with the inputs.. When i select an audio track and choose inputs it has: 1(left, right, Stereo), 3(left, right, stereo) etc. up to 7... Then 9&10 are 1/4" guitar inputs, but still only 9 is shown... same with my audio outs?? only 1 & 3 are shown?? this is confusing and frustrating... haha

It's a stupid way to arrange it, but I bet "1 right" is two, and "3 right" is 4.

The fact that the word stereo is mentioned suggests that it is, indeed, dealing with the inputs as pairs.
1+2
3+4
5+6
etc

Regarding the speakers, yes. You'd hook them up to the main outputs, or outputs 1+2, of your interface.
I don't know what speakers you have, but if they were plugged into your realtek output they have a 3.5mm jack, right?
Interfaces usually have separate outputs for left and right. Each will usually be an XLR or 1/4" output.

You might need some adapter to overcome that.
Studio monitors usually have individual 1/4" or XLR inputs to match the interface.

thanks man!! you're a life saver!! haha.. you always answer super quick..haha... I'm at work right now =, but i bet you are right about the stereo tracks.. I guess i will have to get some monitors, do they make realtek adapters to 1/4"??? Also, I was trying to record direct out from a line6 PODHD500 into the Tascam and the recording was incredibly distorted?? should i keep the levels on the interface as low as possible and turn the pod levels super high?? i know its not the cables either because i ran the POD through my PA and it sounds clean

Wouldn't be the most common adapter around (3.5mm female TRS to 2x1/4" male TS) but I'm sure it exists.
Monitors wouldn't be a bad way to go though.
I don't know what your speakers are but I guess they're just generic desktop jobbies?

Also, I was trying to record direct out from a line6 PODHD500 into the Tascam and the recording was incredibly distorted?? should i keep the levels on the interface as low as possible and turn the pod levels super high?? i know its not the cables either because i ran the POD through my PA and it sounds clean

I think I know what's going on.
The output levels on that pod are most likely line level.
The XLR inputs on your interface expect microphone level signals, which are much lower than line level.

You want to connect that pod with either TRS to TRS cables, or XLR (pod end) to TRS (interface end).

I know I'm new, but like you I just got my audio interface a while ago and had a similar problem of getting it to play back, as like Steen says, most likely if you don't have a pair of monitors and instead have a normal pair of computer speakers then it could be that you need to plug them into the 1/4 outputs of your interface. I had the same problem of trying to get my speakers hooked up to my audio interface. Luckily I found an adapter for my 3.5mm jack and it worked perfectly. I believe that Hosa Technologies has a great line of adapters, and would have what you are looking for, if you are looking for one in stores then I would recommend searching the guitar cable isle/section, because that's where I found mine.

But its also here on amazon to give you an idea of what to look for.

Of course monitors would be the best choice when wanting to get into recording, but hey we work with what we have for the moment.

thanks for the link articwolf!!! i am going to order one of those right now!! yeah, i would love to buy a cheap set of monitors... I have a Behringer PA with 2 15" speakers and a set of floor monitors?? can't i just run the interface through the PA?? ... and Steen, you're the man!! You could certainly do that.
They won't be ideal for monitoring, but the right connections will certainly be there.
Same as your pedal; Line output - Look for line level inputs.

The same applies with your PA. Don't be plugging the POD unit into a microphone level input.
